As a Metroidvania,Blasphemous 2expects you to explore the map as much as possible, return to old areas often, and generally be on the lookout for puzzles that you cannot deal with right now, but might in the future. The key to this style of gameplay lies in the movement abilities available to you.

RELATED:Blasphemous 2: Beginner Tips

At the start of the game, the Penitent One has little in the way of special abilities to use. He can jump and dash, and he has the abilities unique to his chosen starting weapon. That’s it. As you progress through the game, however, you’ll acquire a whole host of useful moves.

Ivy Of Ascension: Wall Climbing

The first movement ability that you’ll find in Blasphemous 2 is the ability tocling to walls and jump off them. This ability is located inProfundo Lamento, which is a small area beneath the City of the Blessed Name.

To access Profundo Lamento, simply keep heading to the right once you reach the City and then fall down thechasmin the centre of the area.

The route through the dungeon is linear, with any branching paths being short dead ends. You’ll eventually reach the first of many statues that grant you a new item. This time, it’s the Ivy of Ascension, which grants you the ability to cling to walls.

From here, you’ll be treated to a short tutorial section that teaches you how to use this ability.

Requirements

Wall Climbing, All Three Weapons

Once you have all three weapons, you’ll be able to take a detour to go get the Passage of Ash, which unlocks the Penitent One’sdouble jump ability.

While you need the weapons found in the dungeons belonging to the three guardians you’re tasked with defeating, you do not have to defeat those bosses to unlock double jump.

In fact, this ability can make some of those fights (specifically the one against Radamés) a lot easier to handle.

This ability is located in an area namedBeneath Her Sacred Grounds, which is locatedunderneath the Mother of Mothersarea. The entrance to Mother of Mothers is found on the southeasternmost corner of Profundo Lamento.

In Mother of Mothers, you’ll need touse all three weapons to progress through the area. Initially, you’ll only need the flail and the rapiers to move around and complete puzzles, butthe entrance to Beneath Her Sacred Grounds is blocked by a horizontal wallthat only Ruego Al Alba can destroy.

Once you’ve reached Beneath Her Sacred Grounds, you’ll have to make your way further down, avoiding spikes and performing some precise platforming. At the bottom, you’ll be confronted by a boss:the Sentinel of the Emery. Beat him, and you’ll find the Passage of Ash past the boss room.

Double Jump

Defeat the following bosses:Radamés,Lesmes, andOrospina

While you didn’t need to defeat the three guardians to acquire the double jump, you will need to beat them to unlock the next movement ability. This is becauseacquiring it requires that the massive city in the sky be lowered.

After beating the third guardian, make your way up to theElevated Templesarea, which is above the City of the Blessed Name.

There’s a lift on the right side of the city that you can access easily with a simple Veredicto platforming challenge.

Make your way through the Elevated Temples, heading upwards whenever possible, to reach your destination:the Chapel of the Five Doves. You have no boss to fight here, but you will be given your next objective: to complete four more dungeons and defeat the bosses at the end of them.

The first of these new dungeons to appear is the Basilica of Absent Faces. To reach the dungeon, warp to the teleporter room in the centre of Crown of Towers. The path to the Basilica is directly above the warp room.

In the Basilica, your progress will be quickly halted byghostly chainsthat you cannot get through - you’ll probably have seen these throughout the rest of the map. Instead, pass right on through the bottom floor of the Basilica to reach a previously inaccessible part of Crown of Towers.

Make your way through this short section, and you’ll come to the next statue that grants you an ability. This time, it’s theMercy of the Wind, which lets you perform an aerial dash or air dash.

Heading back towards the Basilica, you’ll be given a short tutorial that teaches you the air dash isn’t only useful for gaining more air time - you may also use it to break through those ghostly chains. You can head back to the Basilica and complete it now.

Air Dash

Defeat the following bosses:Benedicta and Odón

The final movement ability in the game will take a little while to get to. Firstly, you’ll need todefeat Benedicta in the Basilica of Absent Faces. This will trigger the appearance of theSunken Cathedral, the next dungeon that requires your attention.

To access this dungeon, you’ll need to jump over a very long gap (requiring a double jump and an air dash) in theSea of Ink. Make your way through the dungeon anddefeat the boss at the end of it:Odón.

Once you’ve defeated Odón, pass through his boss arena to find a hole you may drop through to reach theLabyrinth of Tides. Make your way through this tricky area, heading all the way to the left and then starting a long climb upwards, and you’ll reachThe Severed Tower, a dungeon dripping with wax and some of the most dangerous enemies in the game.

You’ll find the final movement ability on theleft side of the dungeon, above the teleporter room. You’ll know you’re in the right room when you enter it - there will be a hugedark spaceto the left. All you need to do is jump up to the ledge on the left, dash through the gap, and then get your reward.

Scions' Protection doesn’t grant you a new ‘move’ per se, but it does make it so that you’re able to reach new places. The small groups ofsparklesthat are dotted throughout the game will now be activated, letting youhold onto ornaments held by small cherubs. These provide access to new areas and are vital in the final dungeons, as well as to reach the boss of The Severed Tower.
