If you’ve ever played aPokemongame, you’ll know the real end goal of them all is to capture just about every Pokemon there is. With the Land of Kitakami added in The Teal Mask DLC, the amount of Pokemon you can add to your collection has expanded once again.

Chief amongst them is the new mascot Pokemon, Ogerpon. They are adorable and powerful but also at the centre ofPokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Teal Mask DLC’s story. As such, acquiring them isn’t as easy as just seeking them out and throwing a Pokeball their way.
How To Get Ogerpon
Ogerpon is important to the story; youdon’t actually acquire them until quite near the end.There is, however,a guaranteed encounter that ends with you capturing Ogerpon.
Below, we’ll give you a brief overview of the story and Ogerpon’s role in it, culminating in the battle against them in which you acquire them.
Encounters With Ogerpon During The Story
The story of The Teal Mask DLC centers around the legend of Ogerpon and the Loyal Three. You will uncover the real history of this tale throughout the story, with you first meeting Ogerpon during the Festival Of Masks and acquiring the Teal Mask here as well.
Following this, you are challenged to a battle by Kieran. Listed below is his team. He has a good variety of types, so it would be best for you to do the same.

These levels are based on the levels seen in an endgame save, however, levels seem to scale.
After this battle, you travel to the Crystal Pools atop Oni Mountain to repair the Teal Mask.Here, a powerfulMilotic blocks your pathand must be defeated.It will belevel 73at the highest. It’s a Water type, so bring a Grass or Electric type Pokemonto counter them.
Kieran will challenge you to another battle after this at Loyalty Plaza with a team that is similar to the last fight but with some changes. A similar strategy as before will easily carry you through.

Following this battle, the Loyal Three are revived and head to the Dreaded Den. While here, you mustdefeat Munkidori of the Loyal Three.
Munkidori is fought as a Boss and is aPoison-Psychic type. This makes himweak to Ground, Ghost, and Dark types, which will let you take him down easily.
From this point on,Ogerpon will follow you across the land of Kitakami, but she is not yet useable in battle. For now,you must track down the Loyal Three and defeat themin enlarged forms to retrieve Ogerpon’s remaining masks.

Battling And Capturing Ogerpon
After retrieving Ogerpon’s masks, you return to the Dreaded Den, whereKieran challenges you to a battlefor who will get to accompany Ogerpon. This is thefinal battle against Kieran.
The Teal Mask features level-scaling dependent on how far through the main game you are, meaning encounters will roughly mirror your own level, up to level 75 for the hardest trainers.
Kieran’s Pokemon will be the same as previous encounters, with many of them in their final evolved form. He alsouses items such as the Focus Sashthat let his Pokemon survive with 1HP, so keep these in mind.

After defeating him,Ogerpon challenges you to a battleto see if you are worthy of being their companion.
This battle functions like a Tera Raid, withOgerpon having a large health bar displayed at all times. As with other similar battles,Ogerpon cannot be captured during these battles, so have no worries about going all-out.
They battle you with each of their masks, restoring their health between each mask. The order is as follows -
Like in Tera Raids, once defeated, you canchoose whichever Pokeball you want to put Ogerpon in, alongside it being a guaranteed capture. Following this, Ogerpon will be yours to use freely in battle.
Unique Mechanics Of Ogerpon
Terastallization allows Pokemon to become a brand-new type in the middle of combat,adding additional STAB damage to your moves. Ogerpon uses the Terestal phenomenon in unique ways.
STAB is an acronym for Same-Type Attack Bonus, powering up moves of the same type as your Pokemon by 1.5x the original. When terastillized, this is increased to 2x.
Rather than getting a crown represented by the Tera type like other Pokemon,Ogerpon gains a giant maskcorresponding to whatever mask they are currently wearing.
They also gain a new ability when terastillized,Embody Aspect, which has a unique effect depending on which mask is worn.
Ogerpon also has aunique ability depending on their maskwhen in their regular form, as well asgaining a second type, which changes the type of their unique move, Ivy Cudgel.
Keep in mind when terastillized, they are purely the type of the equipped mask, losing their dual-typing.
How To Find And Use Ogerpon’s Masks
The central mechanic of Ogerpon revolves around their masks. There are four to choose from -The Teal Mask, Hearthflame Mask, Wellspring Mask, and Cornerstone Mask.
Each of them adds a secondary type to Ogerponexcept for the Teal Mask, which is their default.
Teal Mask
The teal Mask isacquired in your first formal meeting with Ogerpon, where they drop it, and it must be repaired before later returning it to them.
Unlike the other masks, this one isOgerpon’s default form. It gives them the Grass typing and Defiant ability,as well as enhanced speed with theEmbody Aspectability when terastillized.
Hearthflame Mask
The Hearthflame Mask is acquired after defeating the enlarged Fenzandipitiduring the story and is found at the end of a cave on the east side of Oni Mountain.
This mask must be equipped like the rest andgives Ogerpon the Grass-Fire types and the ability Mold Breaker, as well as enhanced attack with theEmbody Aspectability when terastillized.
Wellspring Mask
The Wellspring Mask is acquired from Munkidoriduring the story after defeating them in their enlarged state and can be found by Wisteria Pond in the Wistful Fields.
This mask must be equipped like the rest andgives Ogerpon the Grass-Water types and the ability Water Absorb, as well as enhanced special defence with theEmbody Aspectability when terastillized.
Cornerstone Mask
The Cornerstone Mask is acquired after defeating Okidogiin his enlarged state, where he can be found in the Paradise Barrens.
This mask must be equipped like the rest andgives Ogerpon the Grass-Rock types and the ability Sturdy, as well as enhanced defence with theEmbody Aspectability when terastillized.
