Sazza is a red-haired goblin that found at Emerald Grove inBaldur’s Gate 3.Captured by the tieflings, she can help you get into the good graces of her tribe if you rescue her and bring her home to safety. Given that you need to sneak her through a populated area full of people who want to kill her, though, that’s much easier said than done.

Getting Sazza out of Emerald Grove requires equal parts patience and daring… plus maybe a few Charisma checks. Here’s the best path for helping Sazza escape.

Updated July 03, 2025:We’ve updated this article to include an alternative way to get Sazza out of the camp.

Where To Find Sazza

When you reach Emerald Grove, inspect the body of the gatekeeper who was killed in the goblin attack. His sister will start running to the other side of the grove.Follow her to the prison, where she threatens to kill Sazza, a goblin captive, in retaliation for her brother’s death.

If you prevent Sazza from being killed, you can ask her to introduce you to her tribe’s healer. Use aKnockspell or a set ofThieves' Tools(Astarion is best for this if you aren’t a Rogue yourself) to open her cage.

After freeing her, speak to Sazza and ask her to follow you. Now you need to get her safely to her tribe, and you have a couple of options.

How To Navigate The Secret Passage

Go behind Sazza’s cageand jump down to the nearby ledge. There, one of your characters should be able to easily pass a Perception Check toreveal the Stone Door. Use this door to exit the camp.

The Underground Passage has traps — guardian statues that will launch fireballs at you unless you disable them.

We have aguide on how to do disable them here.

You’ll encounter some Goblins, and, despite having Sazza with you, you’ll need to defeat them in battle.

If Sazza dies, the quest ends, and you cannot revive her. Make sure you keep her safe and healed up!

It might even be worth moving her out of harm’s way behind the rocks as she has such little health.

Once the Goblins have been defeated, you can heal the unconscious Findal on the floor, but it will immediately throw you into a similar conversation as if you had tried to take Sazza past someone in the camp. You’ll have to passan Intimidation Check or Persuasion Check of 15to avoid a fight.

There is more than one exit from the Underground Passage, but you shouldaim to take the most southern pathon the map as this is the closest exit to the priestess. Once you leave, Sazza will thank you and promise to see you at her camp.

Optimal Escape Route For Sazza

Once Sazza is out of her cage, she will join your party as a Follower. Have herimmediately use the Hideactionto enter stealth; if Shadowheart is with you, it might be worth having her castBlessing of the Tricksteron the goblin as well. Higher-level parties may have other spells available that can help the escape.

Keep the rest of the party out of stealth mode; their job is to distract the various guards and villagers, and if any of them are caught sneaking around it will arouse suspicion.

Move Sazza, along with the rest of the party, under the wagon just across from the prison door. This is out of sight from the nearby Tieflings; from there, take the left-hand path, keeping Sazza against the far wall. Have her stand just outside the sight line of the guards in the training yard, thenenter Turn-Based Mode.

Leave Sazza where she is for now, and set up two party members next to Guex and Asharak, the two adults in the training yard. Have a third party member (ideally the one with the best Percecption) speak to the child staring off into space around the corner ahead. The child will disappear if you turn around to see what he’s looking at, removing a possible witness.

Keep the character with the bestDeception, Intimidation, or Persuasionwith Sazza to talk your way out of any trouble she gets into.

End your turn so that everyone has full movement available. Have the party members in the training yardtalk to Guex and Asharak, making them turn around. While their backs are turned, have Sazza use Dashto get around the corner to the left.

The two Tiefling farmers in the ox pasture have a tight patrol formation; it’s possible to sneak past them, but it’s more likely that you’ll have to talk your way out of a fight if they see Sazza.Distract the guardIkaron watching the other side, and move Sazza south toward the Grove’s entrance.

Arron the Trader has his back turned, but he’s quite perceptive; Sazza will likely have a hard time getting past him, so once againhave ahigh-Charisma characterwith her to defuse any potential violence.

Once you’re past him, you canexit Turn-Based Modeand leave via the gate; it will open as you approach. Follow the trail to the west and Sazza will leave your party, telling you to meet her at the Goblin Camp.
