InBaldur’s Gate 3, you’ll face many encounters with varying outcomes depending on your choices. However, it’s not always easy to identify if you’re making the right choice in any given situation. While you’re busy trying to find a cure and no doubt adding to your plate by dealing with Goblins, druids, and Tieflings, you might stumble across an injured man and his two friends.
The wounded man is Edowin, and the two accompanying him are his followers, as they are all a part of the Cult of Absolute. Here’s what you need to know about the various outcomes of this little event.

Where To Find Edowin And His Cultists
you’re able to find Edowin and his two followerswest of the Emerald Grove Environswaypoint at(X:141, Y:443).
You’ll likely stumble across them as you’re heading towards some other objective, but how to deal with them may not be as obvious.

How To Help Edowin
Unfortunately for poor old Edowin, you can’t actually help him. His followers will challenge you when you approach, and you can speak with them to discover that Edowin was attacked by an owlbear.
Whatever dialogue option you go for, Edowin will interrupt, and you’ll communicate via your little brain worm friends.

Choose’Hold his stare.‘to learn more about Edowin and his two siblings, Brynna and Andrick, asattempting to resist is pointlessanyway. Afterward, you can ask them about ‘True Souls’ to learn more about their cult.
Do not attempt to dissuade them or say you are not a True Soul unless you wish to kill these siblings, as doing sowill prompt them to attack you.

Likewise, telling them you are a survivor of the Nautiloid crash will alsomake them attack you, so avoid this also.
Keep things amiable, and then decide what to tell them, or just up and leave.

Either way, Brynna and Andrick aren’t that much of a boon in battle and more just serve as distractions for enemies to wail on.
What Should You Do With True Soul Edowin’s Body?
After you’ve sent his siblings away, interact with Edowin’s bodyto learn your tadpole wishes to retrieve its buddy from Edowin’s head.
You can choose to use Strength or Wisdom rolls to stop this from happening butdon’t do this. Choosing either option will allow the parasite to flee.

You shouldchoose ‘Let your body guide you - welcome the tadpole’s influence.‘to receive theMind Flayer Parasite Specimenas an item.
This little worm sells for 100G, but don’t sell it!
You’ll need this later on as it’s used as a special currency.
Don’t forget to loot Edowin’s body for some gold, camp supplies, and, more importantly, theShaft of a Broken Spear, which will come in handy later.
You can use Speak with the Dead on Edowin’s corpse to get him to answer some more questions. If none of your characters have this, you can obtain it bygetting The Amulet of Lost Voices from within the Overgrown Ruins.
Where To Find The Owlbear Cave
Head west, down the slope from Edowin’s body, and you’ll see a cave across the stream at(X:83, Y:450), and inside the cave mouth.
The aim here is to recover theHead of a Broken Spearto combine it with theShaft of a Broken Spearto create theVision Of The Absolutespear.
you’re able to take a left or right path upon entering the Owlbear Nest. If you go to the left, you can go down the Cragged Rock to find aGilded Chestprotected by magic —don’t try and open it.
Because the chest is protected, you need to do a few things to ensure you may safely open it.
We have a complete guide on how toopen the Gilded Chest here.
There’s also aHealing Potionand aPotion of Animal Speakingnearby, and you can use the latter before heading to the western side of the cave(X:-340, Y-110)to find the Owlbear.
Approaching will trigger a cutscene. Though there are options to ward off the Owlbear or speak with it (if you used the potion),neither will result in you getting the item we came in for.Attempting to speak or interact with it again after your first encounter, or getting a little too close, will cause it to attack as well.
If you want the decent loot on offer, you musttake down the beastin battle.
You don’t need to kill the baby Owlbear, as once the mother is down, the battle will end. You will have the option to kill the cub if you wish to afterward.
We recommend leaving it alive so you canadd it to your camp later.
Loot the Owlbear to retrieve theHead of a Broken Spear. There are several lootables nearby here. Make sure you loot the Skeleton to getThe Oak Father’s Embrace Uncommon Medium Armorandgrab the Owlbear Eggif you killed the Owlbear.
Don’t forget to combine theHead of a Broken Spearwith theShaft of a Broken Spearfrom within your inventory to create theVision of the Absolutespear.
