How To Give Gale Magic Artifacts And Items
Baldur’s Gate 3 allows Gale toconsume just about any magical itemnot blessed specifically by a deity (i.e., Absolute-powered items, divine weapons, etc.) or too large to consume (like full armor sets).
If you’re not sure if your magical item can be given to Gale, look at the item’s description.Towards the bottom of its description, if it is consumable, the item willstate beside an exclamation mark: “Gale can absorb this item’s magic, destroying it.”

When donating items, the game willautomatically display all permissible optionsin the donation window. You do not need to remember or dig for the appropriate items.
Items that areArtifacts, like theStaff Of Crones, are no longer consumable by Gale. If you are coming from the Early Access, forget what you knew about the items you used to give him and pay attention instead to item descriptions.

Youcannot give these items, however, until Gale prompts youto ask for one. Trying to give one to him early or put it in his inventory will result in nothing.
This means you will need tohold the itemsyou wish to give to Gale in your inventory until he asks for them, prompted by an exclamation markover his head.Speak with himand donate it to him.

If your magic item is in someone else’s inventory, don’t worry. You can still elect to donate the item to him.
Should I Give My Magic Item To Gale?
Giving any magical item to Gale willdestroy that item permanently.Thetype of item or its rarity appears to have no effecton how it affects Gale.
You’ll need togive up at least three magical items in Act Oneto progress his quest line. Each time, itseffectiveness and the length between prompts will diminish.

The best items to give to Gale will always be the ones that you don’t foresee needing or using. In essence, giveGale your trashbecause giving him your valuables has no extra benefit.
All prompts to give Gale magical items willend after speaking to the wizard, Elminster Aumar,on the way to Moonrise Towers from the Underdark (Grymforge entrance). This will further advance Gale’s questline, and your magic items will be safe for the time being.
Therefore, keep a cache of three useless magic items onyou for your journey to keep your wizard fed and happy. No one likes an unhappy Wizard - especially not if they know how to cast Fireball.
