What Are Factions In Starfield?

A faction is a group or organization of people that fight for the same belief and cause. You will run into these organizations whether you plan to or not. Factionsprovide quests and rewards.

The purpose of joining a faction is todelve more into the story,side quests, and to try and collect as many experience points and weapons as you’re able to. Each faction has its own beliefs that tie into questlines, such as focusing on exploration or focusing on blackmailing.

How To Join A Faction

There are seven factionsyou can join in Starfield. Joining a faction iscompletely optional. To do so, you must find their headquarters and speak to the person in charge.

Each faction occupies space on different planets.You will have to travel to different stars to find them all.

Constellation is one of the first organizations you come across. You are basically forced into this faction as part of the main story. Their quests involve exploring unfound territories.

Planet Volii Alpha in theVolii system.

A major corporation that is interested in increasing its sales and name.

Freestar Collective

Planet Akila in theCheyenne system.

A Western-themed group that puts the law into their own hands.

Freestar Collective has quests where you play a sheriff in a good-for-nothing town or something of that nature. The quest rewards for this faction are Western-themed, such as a Deadeye pistol.

Planet Jemison in the Alpha Centauri system.

Military-based excursions.

United Colonies focus more on security, control, and protection of the public. If you want to become a security guard or part of the army, this faction will explore that.

The Key in theKryx system.

A morally gray league of pirates.

If you want to deal with the bad guys, but not be a part of a corporate scheme, Crimson Fleet is your faction. Crimson Fleet is essentially a group of pirates and felons hiding out on an old prison station in space.

Can You Join Multiple Factions At Once In Starfield?

The short answer is, yes. Bethesda has made it so that you may join every single joinable faction if you want.There are no negative repercussions to doing so. You actually should if you are a completionist.

Joining multiple factions will give you plenty to do within the game aside from the regular questline and other side quests unrelated to factions. You will have to visit all of the planets eventually, might as well join the different planets factions as well.
