While playingStarfield, you’ll constantly be low on Credits since the game gives you so little and the items you need to buy are quite expensive. It gets to the point where legal sources of income aren’t enough and you have to start thinking about getting your money through other methods.

One of these methods is being able to pickpocket almost every NPC in the game. The game allows you to look into an NPC’s inventory and you can decide if you want to take the risk of alerting the authorities if you find something interesting in there.
How To Unlock The Pickpocket Mechanic
Unlike other mechanics like Lockpicking or Persuasion, Pickpocketing isn’t unlocked in Starfield from the start. You’ll have tolevel up your character and put one point in the Theft Skill to unlock it. It can be found in the Social tab and has a hand with a diamond as its symbol for the first rank.
After you spend the first Skill Point here, you’ll beable to start Pickpocketing any NPC in the gameas long as you fulfill a few conditions. Completing the challenge and putting more Points in this Skill increases the chances of Pickpocketing successfully and allows you to take the weapons at the maximum level.
How To Pickpocket
You’ll notice that you won’t have the option to Pickpocket anyone normally even after you unlock this Skill. To get the option,you’ll have to get close to your target and crouch near them. This replaces the option to talk to them with ‘Pickpocket’. If you press this button, you’ll be able to see everything in their inventory.
Looking at someone’s inventory isn’t a crime, but taking something from it is. If you’re caught while taking an item from someone’s inventory using Pickpocket, you’llinstantly get a bounty on your head and nearby soldiers will start chasing you. You have to keep a few things in mind to avoid detection:
Since getting caught is luck-based, it’s always recommended to save your game before you attempt to Pickpocket someone. Once you look at their inventory and find something you like,save the game first and then attempt the robbery. This allows you to go right back to where you started and you may attempt again if you get caught.
Apart from being a good source of income, Pickpocketing canalso be good if you need to get a specific key from an NPC.
