From tricky games to full-blow tantrums, you might start pulling at your hair while dealing with Thaniel’s chaotic other self. Rest assured, however, we have what you need to overcome Oliver’s little devious machinations. Just remember to bring a light.
Where Is Thaniel’s Other Half, Oliver?
Right outside theShadowed Battlefield Waypoint, you only need to travel ashort distance northward. This area is pointed out to you automatically on your map if you’ve been near the Battlefield Waypoint already and speak to Halsin.
Head northwardover the tree branch to the right of the waypoint. Upwards isa housewhere you can see and hear someone speaking inside as you approach.

How To Play Hide And Seek With Oliver
Although you do not have to and can instead anger Oliver by asking too many questions or outright Attack him, you canelect to play Hide and Seek with him.Halsin will disapprove if you bring him.
The concept is rather straightforward:Oliver will turn Invisiblewhile you try to find him.Usingmagic like Faerie Fireto illuminate him can count as cheating,so you must find him by running around until you bump into him.

Oliver does not sit still.Rather, he runs around while you’re searching. The best thing to do is tospread out your partyfor the greatest chance of bumping into him.
After you catch him the first time, he’llask for another round. If you accept, you’ll have to play again, but this timethere are two Wraiths and a Construct Shadow Dog.He wants you tofind him without being caught by them.

The Wraiths are both positioned on opposite ends to the left and right of the house, with the dog at the front door. For this reason, it isnear impossible to find Oliver without triggering combat.
If you trigger combat with these creatures, the Wraith known as “Mummy” and “Daddy” can usespecial attackslike “Daddy’s Lecture.” Their attacks areNecrotic attacksthat deal damageequivalent to the spellInflict Wounds.

“Doggy” is less threatening butcan cause status effects like Prone, making him a problematic set-up for attacks from the Wraiths.
When caught by the family, the best strategy is todeal with the Wraiths first and the dogs last.

If you don’t play Hide and Seek with Oliver at the house and go straight to battle, these Wraiths will replace the usual ones in his shield battle, making the below battle harder.
In choosing to play tag, you’re essentially spreading the battle out in exchange for making it a tad easier.

Upon the defeat of his fake family, you canspeak with Oliver, who is now very irate. He’ll take the person who spoke with himthrough a portal inside the house.
Send the rest of your party through andbegin combatagainst Oliver at the Sharran Shrine.

How To Defeat Oliver, Thaniel’s Shadow
Oliver is not a boss that you need to attack directly. He has a150HP shieldthat surrounds him. You can choose to attack it, but you also candeal damage to it by destroying Oliver’s conjured shadow creatures.
For every shadow creature felled, Oliver’s bubble of protectionloses 10HP.
This fight isbest donewith a Clericor Paladinwho can Turn Undead and use Radiant damage. Spellcasters with area-effects are very potent here as well.
Keep your fightersclose togethersince there doesn’t appear to be any area-effects that Oliver’s shadows can reliably use.Defeat each of themas they appear.

The Wraiths can be tricky, but once they’re gone,Oliver typically only summons 1HP Shadow Fiends. These can be nullified immediately with Spirit Guardians or Turn Undead in great quantities.
Once you’ve defeated enough of these enemies tobreak Oliver’s shield, combat will cease.
There isa known glitch: ifHalsin has Wild Shapedduring this fight, Oliver will appear and speak from inside of beast Halsin. This is known to cause a plethora of camera-related issues.
Much like with Art Callugh, you’ll have thechoice of speaking with Oliveryourselfor having Halsin speak to him.Whichever you choose,Persuade Oliver to rejoin you at your camp.
At camp, you canspeak with Thaniel at Halsin’s tent. If Moonrise Towers is not yet complete, this quest will have ended, and your next destination will be in quelling the forces there. All signs now point to Moonrise Towers.
