Lords Of The Fallenis here, and it offers a fresh take on the soulslike experience we’re familiar with. While the game sticks to the standard character classes and challenging gameplay, it introduces fresh mechanics to set itself apart. Notably, it features the Umbral realm and a unique take on the multiplayer experience.
If you’re curious about how the online features of the game work or want to know how to enjoy it with a friend, this guide will walk you through all the online and multiplayer mechanics available in the game.

Online And Multiplayer Basics
Before diving into the game’s multiplayer features, it’s essential to grasp some basics.
To enjoy the multiplayer features in the game, you should start in Online Mode. You can do this in two simple ways:

Crossplay is only available between PC and console. If you and your friend are on different consoles, unfortunately, you won’t be able to play together.
If you’re already in online mode, instead of the “Log in” option in the Vestige menu, you’ll find the “Multiplayer” option. When you click on it, you’ll seefour different multiplayeroptions.

The cooperative experience in this game is unique since itallows you to journey through the entire game alongside another lampbearer. After defeating a boss, the other lampbearerwon’t be sent back to their worldas you would expect from other Souls games.
Even if you decide to teleport to another Vestige, the other lampbearer will be transported to the same location you’ve chosen. This ensures that you can continue your cooperative adventure seamlessly.

Keep in mind that the other lampbearer has the option to either stay or leave the session, andit’s entirely their choice.
On top of that, if the other lampbearer happens to die during this cooperative journey, they won’t be sent back to their own world. Instead, the host has a chance to revive them. The host will noticea glowing spotwhere they can approach and interact with it to bring the other lampbearer back into the game.

All of these new features offer a fresh take on multiplayer that many have been seeking in this type of game.
Beckon Lampbearer
This is the first option in the Multiplayer menu, whereyou summon another player through matchmaking to join you, either for a boss fight or exploring an area. In this scenario, you act as the Hostand have control over the world state. This means you candecide whether to enter the Umbral realm or stay in Axiom.
When it comes to loot, both the host and the other lampbearer can collect various items dropped by enemies. However, the other lampbearer won’t have access to special items like key items or hidden loot found in chests.

Their primary role here is to provide assistance whilestill receiving the expected amount of Vigor for both parties. It’s a win-win situation for both lampbearers.
It’s very important to emphasize thatprogression is not shared, andonly the host character advances in the game.
Beckon Friend
This option providesthe easiest way to invite a friend from your platform friend list to join your game.
After clicking on it, you’ll seea list of all your available friendsyou can invite to play with you.
The mechanics work the same as when you beckon a random lampbearer, andthe same rules apply.
The key difference is that the first option brings in a random player, while this one allows you to easily invite a specific person to join your game.
Accompany Lampbearer
Now, if you choose this option, you’ll be able to join another lampbearer’s sessionand assist them on their journey.
In this case, you won’t be the host, and the other lampbearer will have control over the world state.
The same rules apply here as well, and there aren’t any differences.
This option serves two main purposes:
Slaughter Lampbearer
Of course, we couldn’t leave out the PVP option in the game, whereyou can invade another lampbearer’s sessionand add a bit of chaos to their day. It’s all about having some disruptive fun, and that’s about it.
For those who relish the idea of invading others in a game just for the thrill of it, the good news is thatthere’s no option to prevent this as long as they are playing online.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that when you invade someone else’s session, you might not find them alone. There’s a chance they are already with another lampbearer, andwho knows what might happen to you in that situation.
If you have a friend who’s been boasting about their skills and you’re looking to put them in their place, don’t worry; the game has a solution to end this talk once and for all.
Simply set a password that both you and your friend can match, and then choose this option. Only the battlefield will determine who truly reigns supreme.
