If getting to explore the Sword Coast with a party of colorful characters isn’t exciting enough,Baldur’s Gate 3allows you to romance several characters you come across. From long-term committed relationships to one-night arrangements, there’s something for everyone who wants to add a bit more character to their playthrough.
Gale is a much-beloved character, despite the annoyance of his early in-game need for magic. He has a rich character arc that grows like many of the other party members the more you spend time with him. Pursuing the romance is worthwhile, especially if you love a little bit of magic.
How To Earn Approval With Gale
Earning approval with Gale isn’t too hardif you’re open-mindedand ultimatelynot an evil character. He’s the resident wizard in the party, so long as you didn’t take off his hand as the Dark Urge, and he has athirst for knowledge and power.
Approval isessential to romancing a characterin Baldur’s Gate 3 and aiming tomake decisions that earn favorwith your desired companion is the best way to pursue a romance.
Unlike some members of the party,Gale is morally good. While there are moments where his morality wavers in favor oflearning secrets of the arcane, he is awise and open-mindedman.
Making Good Choices
Gale approves of many things, especially if they’regood-aligned decisions. He approves of the following:
Giving Gale Magical Artifacts
To gain Gale’s approval,progress with his personal quest, and keep him alive, you’ll need togive Gale magical artifacts. Throughout Act One, you’ll only need togive him threeto sate his appetite.
If you’re not surewhat artifacts to give Gale, most items are safe if you have no use for them.
This romance guide containsminor spoilers for each act. Proceed at your own risk.
How To Romance Gale In Act One
After saving the Druid camp,you’ll have a celebrationfor your next long rest. Here, you can speak to many of your companions, some of whom will want to share the night with you if you have enough approval with them.
Head over to Galeand speak with him first to prevent any miscommunications. When he asks if you want to practice magic with him,accept the offer. Afterward, when you go to your bedroll, the scene will start.
When you approach Gale, you’ll be able to talk to him about his love forhis goddess, Mystra, and hisdevotion to the arcane. He’ll ask again if you want totry manipulating the weavefor yourself.
You’ll have topass a series of small checksthat have alow DC of five. Passing them will create a comforting and intimate atmosphere.
Don’t worry about being perfect. Gale is a patient and excited teacher who’s just happy you’re going along with the lesson and trying something new.
Gale will ask how it feels to manipulate the weave like he does. Answer with either choice:
When the moment feels intimate, you have the opportunity to release your grasp on the weave or savor the atmosphere.Hold on to the momentand imagine one of two things:
Either option will startle him (in a good way), andyou’ll end the evening with a bashful Galeand your relationship on the right track. Even though you won’t spend the night together,everything is set in motion.
How To Romance Gale In Act Two
You will need tosave the tieflings fromMoonrise Towersbefore you can get this scene. Not rescuing them maylock you out of the romance, as the following scene won’t be triggered.
This is only possiblebefore completing theGauntlet of Shar, otherwise, the tieflings will die.
In Act Two, after learning the truth in the Gauntlet of Shar, Gale will send aMirror Imageto speak with youat camp during your next long rest.Agree to follow along, and you’ll find Gale waiting for you in a meadow. You’ll talk about his fears and concerns and have theopportunity to comfort him.
When prompted, answer:
This moves the scene forward, andthere are two options: the illusion of magic to create a perfect moment or Gale just as he is now.
Embrace The Illusion
To proceed with the illusion,ask Gale to show you the perfect nightin Waterdeep. You’ll get a glimpse of his life before your adventure started. Answer however you like to build a rapport, then answer when prompted:
This willinitiate a night among the stars–literally–whereyour bond with Gale will deepen.
Embrace The Real Gale
At any point, you canask Gale to stop the illusionso that you canspend the night with the man in front of you. He’ll snap his fingers and end the illusion, bringing you back to the meadow for amuch more subdued scene.
Choosing to stop the illusionwill not prevent you from continuing the romancein Act Three.
During the fight against Ketheric Thorm in Act Two, you’ll need totalk Gale out of doing something reckless to continue.
How To Romance Gale In Act Three
Before entering the city, you canenjoy the Circus of Last Daysand exploretheTrial of Lovewith Gale. Whilethis is optional, it’s highly encouraged to build on Gale’s story andgain additional approval.
Later in Act Three, Gale will ask you tofind Sorcerous Sundries. You’ll need to find a specific book and read it to learn more about the crown that controls the Elderbrain.
This scene can easily be missed if you take a long rest after reading the book or if you head to the Stormshore Tabernacle like Elminster asked.
Gale can speak with Elminster, but do not proceed until talking to Gale at camp. Otherwise, you may miss this important scene.
After reading the book, “The Annals of Karsus,“Gale will want to speak to you at camp. He’s excited about the potential the future holds, especially if you support him. When prompted to,close your eyes.
Answer however you’d like until it comes time tosupport Gale or talk him down.
Supporting Gale’s Quest
WhenGale looks to you for support, offer it. Tell him the following:
This willprovide support to Gale’s endeavorwith you as his closest ally.
Talking Gale Down
If youdon’t want to support Gale’s ambitions, you can talk him down. To do so, bring him down gently:
This will bring Gale back down a little, but the gentler option will allow you to spare his feelings a bit more.
Both options lead to the same scene, though talking Gale down dampens the excitement a little. Feel free to encourage him here.
Thankfully, this conversationwon’t impact your ending. Whether you support him or talk him down,Gale will ask to speak with you another nightto tell you that he’s having second thoughts.The decision will be yours to makefor him later.
With that, you’vecompleted all of Gale’s romance scenesbefore reaching the end of the game.
