Unlike last time, there won’t be a way to get him out without getting a little messy with the cult of the Absolute. Hold on to your weapons and prepare to get a little personal with an angry mob. Oh, and ensure you bring some water. Lots and lots of water.
Where To Find Volo In Baldur’s Gate
Volo is on the far side of theLower City near the Steel Watch manufacturing plant and the docks(Coordinates: X: -226, Y; -150). He’ll betied to a chairwhen you approach with a long trail offlammable oilleading up to him and thelarge Smokepowder Barrelbehind him.
Once you get close enough, you’ll get tospeak with the angry mobaccusing him of spreading lies and propaganda in a rant so hypocritical you’d think an apple was accusing an orange of being a fruit.

You cannot Persuade or Intimidate the cultto let go of Volo in most cases (though there are exceptions for those who have taken shadier story paths). Most will get themselves wrapped up in a scuffle with the mob.
How To Free And Protect Volo
Volo will begin the first round tied to the chair. You have approximatelyfive rounds to save him, but with so much fire being thrown around in the fight, youmight only have two.
We recommendsending your most mobile unit forward and shooting the chairunder Volo out from under him on turn one.

Do not shoot the chair under Volo with a Fire damaging attack. This will accidentally ignite the oil and Smokepowder Barrel and instantly kill him.
Once Volo is free,he’ll begin fleeing to the docks. He might take some fire damage along the way if the oil is lit, but he’ll survive. After he’s free of the chair and running, themob generally doesn’t follow him.

With him safe, you canfocus on the cultistsand those who appear to be loyal to Bhaal. Most of them prefer ranged attacks and dislike melee fights.
Get in the cultists' faces andcast any spells that might cause great Disadvantageagainst them.Large ice attacks likeIce Stormoperate well hereto slow down their movement and prevent them from setting up good shots.

Keep your spellcasters in the back and tucked awayaround the corner on the right or behind the boxes on the left, leaving only to attack and then retreat.
Attack, rinse, and repeatuntil each of the cultists are gone. Thankfully, there are no bosses here, and they’re rather straightforward (if not a little tedious).

When they’re all wiped up, you may govisit Volo quivering on the docks to the left. Speak with him, and he’ll agree tovisit your camp.If you haven’t done so already, you can regain the choice to have Volo operate on your eye.
