Most farming games keep you firmly planted on land, and it makes sense.Coral Island, however, is a different sort of farming game. Not only do you get to dive into the ocean to clean it up and explore, but there are underwater inhabitants to befriend as well: the merfolk.
If you’re a fan of merfolk, you’re in for a treat. You won’t be able to interact with the merfolk right away, they’re something you’ll have to unlock. It’s understandable that they may be a little leery of humans, after the havoc that was wreaked on their habitat by pollution.

How To Gain Access To Diving
To gain access to merfolk in the game,you may’t just swim. You need to be able todive underwaterfor extended periods of time.
To gainaccess to diving waypoints,you shouldunlock the Lake Temple. Make sure youdonate one complete bundle. It can be theEssential Resources bundle, which is the easiest to complete.

As you progress in the game,you’ll be given a quest called ‘Into the Ocean.‘If you want to get started on unlocking merfolk,complete that quest as soon as possible.
You’llget a diving suitas part of the quest, andlearn how to dive. Make sure toharvest plenty of green seaweedwhen you’re diving, so you canrestore your stamina.

Thediving spot won’t be accessibleuntil you’ve progressed enough and received the quest.
Activate Solar Orbs To Heal Coral Sites
The next step to unlocking merfolk is toactivate 20 solar orbs. The solar orbs areunder piles of trash, so you’ll have touse your sickleto remove the trash.
This can be very time-consuming, andwill drain stamina quite a bit. You’ll wantplenty of food to help restore staminaand make the most of your diving time.

You’ll bekicked out of your dive at 23:00 hours, even though you still have a few more hours before you’ll pass out. You shouldarrive closer to your last locationthe next time you dive though, so you at least won’t need to go through everything you’ve already done.
If you’re not in a hurry to unlock the merfolk,Winter would be a great seasonto do this task. You’ll havefewer farming duties, and can spend more time during your days diving and making decent progress.

Follow Retreating Roots
Once you activate 20 solar orbs, your next task will be tofollow the black oily-looking rootsthat move away as you approach. You’ll want tokeep clearing trash away, andactivate all the solar orbsyou can find as you go.
As you continue to activate more solar orbs,more of the map will be available for youto explore. Keep cleaning and following the rootsto discover the Merfolk Kingdom gate.

Usevortex bombsand considerupgrading your sickleto make this task easier. If you’re planning this for Winter,start making glass and scrap ahead of timeso you’ll have plenty of supplies for bombs.
How To Open The Merfolk Kingdom Gate
If you haven’t already activated all the solar orbs in the available areas,you should finish that task. Retreating rootswill cover the gateuntil you’ve successfully activated all the necessary orbs.
Any orbs you may have missedwill show gray indicators on the ocean map, instead of the yellow ones for solar orbs that are activated. Once you’veactivated all the orbs, the retreating roots should be gone from the gate.
You can approach the gate now, andyou’ll notice there’s still a wall blocking accessto the Merfolk Kingdom. There is a puzzle to unlock the gate, but it’s quite simple.
Puzzle Solution:
To solve the puzzle,match the shapes in the correct orderthat is displayed on the wall. Float over the correspondingimages on the floor to activate themin the following order:
Rewards For Unlocking Merfolk Kingdom
Unlocking the Merfolk Kingdom is probably reward enough by itself, butyou’ll also get 500 coral coinsfor completing this quest. Additionally, there are a few quick quests you’ll get directly afterto explore the kingdom and venture into the Deep Sea.
You’ll get astamina fruitfrom one of those quests, which gives youa permanent stamina increase.
