Surveying a planet should be a regular pastime as you travel around the galaxy. You will end up encountering unique natural features as you scour the land for resources, flora, and fauna to complete your survey data. You’ll also need to find something called planetary traits, so here’s what you need to know.
What Is A Planet Trait
First and foremost,a planetary trait is a special phenomenon or environmental featurethat can be found on a specific planet or moon.
This could be an example ofa special biome environment, such asthe Frozen Ecosystem traitthat can be found on some of the more icy planets. Or, it could beevidence of previous lifeand environments, such asthe Deep Ocean Depositsthat point to long-gone life-giving seas.

A planet trait is something thatyou need to scan in order tosurvey 100 percent of a planet. Much like flora and fauna, planet traits will varyfrom space rock to space rock.
How To Survey Planet Traits
In order to check off a planet’s traitsfor your survey data, you will need toexplore the planet and find the specific phenomenon. This may involve quite a bit of running around, especially if you don’t know what trait you are looking for.
You’lluse your scanner in the same way you would scan data from plants and animalsliving on a planet. Just open up your scanner, get in range, and scan what you need to.

Tohelp survey planets faster, and uncover what planet traits you need to look for, invest skill points in the Astrophysics skill. Thisexpands the range of your planetary scannerand gives you a chance to identify a planet or moon’s traits.
Let’s take the moon calledCurbeamas an example.Curbeam orbits the planet Bondar in the Alpha Centauri System. An initial scan will tell youit has one traityou need to find.
To survey the trait, you need totouch down on Curbeam, thenuse to scanner to look around the horizon. Scan unknown markers as you begin to explore in any direction.
Curbeam’s trait is Deep Ocean Deposits, so you’ll want tolook for any “Natural” points of interest. You just need to explore until you find something that pops up as an “Unexplored Geological Feature.” Scan this to complete the survey for the planet trait.
Rinse and repeat on every planet and moon you land on, and you’ll berolling in credits anytime you can sell survey data.
