Disney Lorcana’sSteel/Sapphire starter deck is a ramp archetype deck that focuses on building your inkwell quickly so you can play characters with large bodies and overwhelm your opponent with strength. In its basic form, however, it isn’t the most reliable deck to play.

In this guide, we’ll be sharing three different versions of a Steel/Sapphire deck you can build using the starter deck as a skeleton. First, a budget version, then a more advanced one that will require some investment, and finally, a top-end version that will perform well in a competitive environment.

All three decks we’ve constructed are designed to build on the strengths of the starter deck. There may be other Steel/Sapphire archetypes, but these upgrades maintain the core of what makes the starter deck work. If you enjoy the playstyle of the Steel/Sapphire starter, you’ll have fun piloting these decks as well.

Triton, The Sea King

For the budget version of the deck, the goal is toadd consistency by slimming down the deck and focusing on the things it already does well: ramp, large bodies, and controlling the board with damage-dealing actions. You can remove low-impact items like Frying Pan, Magic Golden Flower, and Coconut Basket to make room for extra copies of One Jump Ahead, Gramma Tala, Storyteller; and Mickey Mouse, Detective, which will help the deck ramp more consistently. It’s also smart to add a Fire the Cannons and two copies of Smash so that you can combat more aggressive deck archetypes while you ramp up to your big boys.

For your characters, you cancut back on some of your low-cost ones to make room for more expensive ones. Since you’ll be focused on ramping for the first few turns, you’re able to remove the Goons, Maleficent’s Underlings; Prince Eric, Daring and Brave; and a Maleficent, Sinister Visitor, to make room for more Mufasa, King of the Pride Lands and Triton, The Sea King

There are quite a few swaps here, but we’ve only added common and uncommon cards to the deck, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding these cards. The strategy of this deck remains the same:ramping up your inkwell so you can play expensive characters early.

Your actions and songs will help you control the board while you buy time for your big boys, while Develop Your Brain and Ransack or great for filtering out ramp cards that you don’t need later in the game.

Tinker Bell, Tiny Tactician (x4)

Triton, The Sea King (x3)

For a mid-cost version of the deck you can make it even more consistent byadding additional copies of high-value rare cardslike Grab Your Sword; Maleficent, Uninvited; and Aurora, Dreaming Guardian, while removing less valuable cards like Aurora, Briar Rose; Maleficent, Sinister Visitor; Scar, Mastermind; Kristoff, Official Ice Master; and Jasmine, Disguised.

Adding four copies of Tinker Bell, Tiny Tactician andtwo copies of Tinker Bell, Giant Fairy will increase the potency of this deck significantly. Not only does the Giant Fairy do area-of-effect and targeted damage, but it’s also an additional large body on the board. This is a super rare card that fits into almost every Steel deck, so consider prioritizing this when trading or buying singles.

We’re removing Ransack in favor of more characters, and replacing Gramma Talla with Fishbone Quill, a rare item that allows you to add extra ink to your well every turn.Ramping quickly is important for this deck, but it puts strain on your hand, so you can add a couple of copies of Beast’s Mirror to help you generate more cards to ink.

Disney Lorcana: The Best Action Cards

This version of the deck focuses on heavy board control, giving you time to ramp into Mufasa, Tinker Bell, Triton, and Simba. Auora, Dreaming Guardian and Hercules, True Hero will help protect your high-lore characters and further control the board by making favorable trades, while Develop Your Brain and Beast’s Mirror will help ensure that you can continue drawing more cards and consistently find your big characters.

You can’t control the cards you draw, which is why it’s so important to focus on making good choices with your opening hand. Lorcana has a generous mulligan rule that allows you to redraw as many cards as you want in your opening hand, so take advantage of that opportunity and try to start each game with the best curve possible. For this deck, you want to try to keep both versions of Stitch in your opening hand, which will give you an early-game advantage and allow you to flood the board quickly with high-lore, low-cost characters.

Belle Strange But Special-2

Belle, Strange but Special (x4)

Tinker Bell, Giant Fiary (x4)

This version of the deck may look dramatically different from the mid-cost version, butit maintains the starter deck’s control andramp playstyle that allows you to win by dropping big bombs on the field turn after turn. There are a number of key super rare and legendary cards in this deck that work together to make it an incredibly formidable list.

Beell, Strange but Special is the centerpiece of this deck. Not only does she allow you to add two cards to your inkwell each turn, but once you reach ten ink she quests for five lore each time.

Getting Belle out early can help you accelerate to ten ink quickly, which will also allow you to play cards like Hades, Infernal Schemer and Robin Hood, Unrivaled Archer. These cards remove threats from the board and allow you to draw more cards, respectively, while also sticking on the board as large bodies your opponent will have to deal with.

Belle and the Fishbone Quill will drain your hand quickly, but you can use Beast’s Mirror and the song A Whole New World to refill your hand and continue your plan of adding ink and dropping bombs.

Tinker Bell, Giant Fairy is still a great anti-aggro tool, while Captain Hook, Thinking a Happy Thought will help you get around characters with Ward that can’t be targeted by Smash or Fire the Cannons.

This is one of the most expensive decks you can build, but its most costly cards - Hades, Belle, Giant Fairy, and A Whole New World - fit into a multitude of decks. It may take some time to put this list together, but you’ll find it to be one of the most consistently powerful decks in the game.

You may notice this deck runs a considerable amount of non-inkable cards, which is generally considered a bad idea. Remember though that Fishbone Quill can putanycard in your inkwell, regardless of whether it’s inkable or not. If you’re stuck with big cards you can’t play, use this trick to get them out of your hand and into your inkwell.

Hopefully, these decks will help you tighten up your Sapphire/Steel starter deck and start thinking about new ways to construct your own versions too. Deckbuilding is an important part of any TCG, so once you’ve tried out these options don’t be afraid to make further alterations until the deck feels good to you.
