Despite doing slightly different things, both games were trying to capture a certain kind of magic that some don’t see in gaming anymore. Whether or not one managed to capture that magic over the other will be up to each individual, but there are enough key factors from both games to decide about which is truly the better game.

9Bomb Rush Cyberfunk - Different Gameplay Styles

While the gameplay styles on offer in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk don’t vary greatly on the surface, they are a welcome aspect of the game. Being able to run around, skate around, and bike around are all a blast and create plenty of fast-paced action options withoutthe need for any more awesome mods.

Each movement style is complete with the kinds of unique movements you’d expect considering movement with a bike and a skateboard should feel quite different. Despite all of that, the game is simple to control and should only take a few minutes to fully grasp, even if you continue to build your skills the more you play.

8Jet Set Radio - Simplistic Gameplay

When you’re playing Jet Set Radio, you’re locked into the experience the game asks of you. You will be rollerblading around and tagging all of your targets as quickly as you can while taking care to avoid any trouble that’s thrown your way.

Jumping, grinding, and tagging are rarely as simple as this, and that’s far from a bad thing. Anyone should be able to pick up and play the game immediately, even if some aspects of it can feel dated back to the era in which score-based extreme sports games were popular.

7Bomb Rush Cyberfunk - Actual Combat

This game decided to include bits of combat throughout, something that allowed for several surprisingly varied boss battles. You’ll engage with several different bossesthroughout the game with your favorite character, and each will test the skills you’ve developed as you’ve played.

Additionally, you’re able to lay the smackdown on the smaller enemies that oppose you if you’re feeling particularly funky. The combat isn’t as in-depth as it could be, but considering it wasn’t needed at all, it’s a welcome addition to keep things fresh.

6Jet Set Radio - A Killer Soundtrack

The Bomb Rush Cyberfunk soundtrack is a joy to be sure, but Jet Set Radio took even more of a unique swing and nailed it. The funky soundtrack feels like a bygone era, but in the same sort of way that some of the music from the Persona games do.

Rushing around and tagging to the bombastic soundtrack is always a ton of fun, and despite being much older, fans of both games might just find themselves gravitating to Jet Set Radio’s groovy and incredible soundtrack more often.

5Bomb Rush Cyberfunk - Lots Of Charm

While Jet Set Radio has a style that this game emulates, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk still has a distinct vibe that sets it apart from its inspiration. From the world design to the character design, and even the fantastic graffiti animations, this game has a lot of charm.

The fun little twists to traverse throughout the world and the boss fights to make this game feel wholly unique. The story isn’t anything revolutionary, but even that oozes a certain level of delightful cheesiness for those looking for something beyond the gameplay.

4Jet Set Radio - A Distinct Style

Jet Set Radio manages to stand out visually to this day, and that’s thanks to its distinct art style featured throughout. There aren’t many games that look like Jet Set Radio, and the unique traversal in the game only adds to that.

The cel-shaded nature of the art style makes the game look as if a comic book is playing out in front of you in real-time, and even when it’s compared to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Jet Set Radio still manages to look distinct and relatively timeless.

3Bomb Rush Cyberfunk - A Full Story

While Jet Set Radio has a story, it’s not much of a story, and instead, more of an excuse to let you play a thrilling game. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk tries its best to give you a fleshed-out narrative with characters that matter.

The whole experience may not be the greatest narrative experience ever put to screen, but you’ll likely remember characters like Faux, Tryce, and Bel after the game is done. This is a bit of a win over Jet Set Radio’s relatively simple story.

2Jet Set Radio - A Few Tricky Aspects

While Jet Set Radio isn’t too tough to pick up and play, thriving with the game is. The main reasons that make taking this game to the next level tough are the design choices, fighting with the camera, and some weak computer character patterns and actions.

This game was released in what was still the relatively early era of 3D back in 2000, so many of these issues are common among games of the time. None of these things make the game bad, but they do make sticking with the game a bit trickier the deeper you get.

1Winner: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

It seems to be that theconsensus among most people and reviewsis that Bomb Rush Cyberfunk does everything that Jet Set Radio did and much, much more. The world feels much more dynamic and traversal feels a lot tighter than in Jet Set Radio, and the characters of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk are also much more memorable.

Having a series of boss fights that test you was also a great choice, adding a new layer of complexity to what can feel like simple gameplay after a few hours. Its soundtrack may not be as incredible for some people, but it certainly does hold its own against Jet Set Radio. All of this and more makes Bomb Rush Cyberfunk the clear choice when it comes to which game to play next.
