Shredder’s adopted daughter Karai has been revealed as the final playable character coming toTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge as part of the Dimension Shellshock DLC, which now has an official release date - August 31.

Although a lot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans might have their eyes and shells directly focused on Mutant Mayhem, that’s not all the turtle goodness we’ve got coming in 2023 as we’re just a few short weeks away from the release of the Dimension Shellshock DLC for Shredder’s Revenge. Not only does the DLC pack add a new survival mode, but it also introduces frequent TMNT crossover character Miyamoto Usagi of Usagi Yojimbo fame to the roster of playable heroes.

As has been teased by Tribute Games several times since the DLC’s announcement, Usagi isn’t the only new character being added to the game, with a recent tweet confirming that there would be more than one new hero. While I previously speculated that the team was referencing Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady, who can all be temporarily transformed into via powerups in the new survival mode, it turns out that there really is a second brand-new playable character - Shredder’s adopted daughter, Karai.

Karai might not always be an ally to the Turtles depending on what era you’re looking at (and in fact didn’t even appear in the ’80s cartoon that Shredder’s Revenge is based on), but considering the multidimensional focus and that she’s been involved in most iterations of TMNT since the original Mirage comics, it makes perfect sense for her to be added to the team.Karai was confirmed in a new trailer for Dimension Shellshockthat showed off how she plays, which seems to focus mostly on power instead of movement and range.

Thankfully, after a lot of patience from TMNT fans, the trailer also confirmed a release date of August 31 and a price point of $7.99 for the DLC. Dotemu and Tribute Games also confirmed that a second free update (following the one in December that allowed players to customise their game with modifiers) that features a range of different colour palette options for all of the playable characters whether you purchase Dimension Shellshock or not.

While Karai might appear to be the final character coming to Shredder’s Revenge, it’s possible that might not always be the case. After confirming that Dimension Shellshock was its own separate modeinstead of a new campaign during an interview with TheGamer earlier this year, lead game designer Frederic Gemus coyly answered “Who knows what the future might hold?” when asked about more expansions for Shredder’s Revenge in the future.
