Like A Dragon fans have a lot to look forward to over the next six months, with two exciting titles on the docket.Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Nameis the first game out of the gates, launching on November 9 later this year. Before today, we were still without a release date for Ichiban’s next adventure inLike A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, but Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios has revealed that the game will be launching on January 26 next year.
Alongside the announcement of a release date, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios also revealed a pretty lengthy new trailer showing off all kinds of new story details, including what Ichiban Kasuga is actually doing in Hawaii in the first place. It turns out, Ichiban has been told to go track down his mother, who he knows is residing somewhere in Hawaii, and all that he has to go on is a random necklace.

It’s a pretty typical Yakuza story, and only Ichiban Kasuga would up sticks to a different country on the slight chance he might bump into his mother there. It’s also shown that the rest of the gang joins him there as well, including Kiryu, and we get to see returning characters like Nanba, Saeko, and Adachi for the first time. We also got to see some of the game’s antagonists too, who are pretty varied in demeanor and style.
However, the biggest bombshell that was dropped involves Kiryu, as the mystery surrounding his new appearance was revealed as well. Half way through the trailer,we see Kiryu admit that he’s actually been battling cancer for a while, and has been resuming his regular chaotic activities against his doctor’s orders. Instead of resting up, Kiryu is choosing to “put what time [he’s] got left to work” by helping out Ichiban Kasuga and various other Yakuza-related troubles.
As for gameplay, the trailer was pretty light on that front, though there are certain things we can glean from it. We know that karaoke is back and that Kiryu will be taking up the mic again, thanks to a short scene at the karaoke bar in Yokohama. This also means that Hawaii won’t be the only destination we visit in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth too, meaning we’ll likely swap between the two locations like in previous titles.
And if it needed clarifying, we also confirmed during the RGG Summit panel after the trailer aired that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be turn-based just like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and that Kiryu will need to rely on his friends in combat now due to his condition.
