Ritual weapons serve as great weapons to chase for New Lights and returning players alike, offering some powerful perk combinations that are usually restricted to endgame weapons. This guide will showcase how you may earn the Malediction Hand Cannon and its ornaments, and we’ll cover the best perks you can use on this ritual weapon.
How To Obtain Malediction
The Malediction Hand Cannon can be earned byreaching Rank 16 with Zavala, Shaxx, or the Drifter.Completing ritual activities—Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit—will award reputation progress with that activity’s respective vendor. Zavala oversees Vanguard Ops, Shaxx runs the Crucible, and the Drifter hosts Gambit.
Rank 16 requires 9,000 reputation to achieve, requiring a few hours of gameplay within a given ritual playlist. Our recommendation is tofarm Crucible’s rotating playlistto get this done quickly. Modes like Momentum Control, Mayhem, and Team Scorched are casual playlists that only last a couple of minutes. For more information and tips on increasing your vendor ranks, consult the following guides:

Malediction Ornaments
As with most ritual weapons, Malediction has three ornaments that are obtainable from each ritual vendor. Once Season of the Witch ends, these ornaments will become obtainable from the Exotic Kiosk in the Tower for the cost of an Ascendant Shard and a small bundle of Glimmer.
Aged Allegiance (Vanguard)
Aged Allegiance is obtained byresetting your Vanguard Rank with Zavala and reaching Rank 16 again. This is arguably the hardest ornament to earn since Vanguard Reputation is earned so slowly. Completing Nightfalls is the fastest way to increase your reputation, but it will take many play sessions to reset your Vanguard Rank, much less reach Rank 16 again. Your best bet is to wait until a double Vanguard Rank week is active before attempting to earn this ornament.
Seasoned Temper (Crucible)
Seasoned Temper is the Crucible ornament for Malediction and can be earned byresetting your Crucible Rank and reaching Rank 16 again.Crucible Ranks are earned from every PvP playlistexceptCompetitive, as that uses the Glory system. Farming the weekly rotating playlist—Momentum Control, Mayhem, Team Scorched, etc.—is recommended. Rumble is also a good choice if you’re a skilled PvP player.
Mulled Envy (Gambit)
Mulled Envy is the Drifter’s unique ornament for Malediction, earned uponresetting your Gambit Rank and reaching Rank 16 once again with the Drifter.Gambit Ranks can be earned somewhat quickly if you stick to the playlist and play with a premade team. Solo players should focus on invading to slow down the enemy team as much as possible. Alternatively, go all-in on slaying adds to summon your team’s Primeval as quickly as possible.
Harmony
Explosive Payload
Malediction is an Aggressive Frame (120 RPM) Hand Cannon that deals Kinetic damage. Compared to other 120s, Malediction has a surprisingly high stat package, featuring 61 range, 49 stability, and 47 handling. This is further enhanced withEnlightened Action, a new perk that increases your weapon’s handling and reload speed as you deal damage—a perfect column three trait for a Hand Cannon.
You can pair this withExplosive Payloadto make Malediction adueling machine for PVPand a solid PvE workhorse. Each shot will deal a small bit of explosive damage, dealing 15% more damage in PvE while greatly flinching Guardians in PvP. You can also useHarmonyif you want this gun to two-tap with some setup, although this is more of a gimmick since most Guardians run more than T5 Resilience in the current meta.

Overall,Enlightened Action and Explosive Payloadis the best combination for both PvE and PvP. Enlightened Action greatly buffs your reload and handling, while Explosive Payload extends this gun’s effective range and dueling capabilities. If you don’t own Igneous Hammer or any good PvP Hand Cannons in general, Malediction is absolutely worth getting. And for New Lights that want a hard-hitting Primary, Malediction is a welcome addition to their arsenal.
