Mortal Kombat 1players are reporting that the latest build present at EVO 2023 has already fixed some of the big issues revolving around movement speed from previous footage and playtests of the game.

The prospect of a new Mortal Kombat game completely reshaping the timeline and changing pretty much every character that we’ve known and loved over the past decade might seem scary but, by all accounts, NetherRealm seems to be knocking it out of the park so far, as those who have gone hands-on with the game prior to launch have had very positive reactions.

That being said, there is one complaint that’s reared its head a few times now - the movement speed. As best illustrated by fighting game YouTuber Maximilian Dood, the speed at which characters can move and dash in Mortal Kombat 1 has taken a big hit since Mortal Kombat 11, which was already going much slower than Mortal Kombat X.

This resulted in the game apparently feeling and looking somewhat sluggish compared to other big fighters and something that was perceived as slowing things down just a littletoomuch. This was unarguably the biggest bit of feedback that a lot of players had for the game and, despite it only being a few months since anyone has been able to try it out at Summer Game Fest orduring the closed network tests, it appears to be something that NetherRealm has already worked towards fixing.

The new movement speed is something that wasfirst highlighted by fighting game pro SonicFox, who went hands-on with the game at EVO this year and said, “OMG MK1 MOVEMENT IS INSANE NOW! THEY ADDED MK9 DASH BLOCK I COULD CRYYYY”. SonicFox wasn’t the only one either, asTwitter user BruskPoet also had similar sentiments after playing it, tweeting, “MOVEMENT HAS IMPROVED I REPEAT MOVEMENT HAS IMPROVED. DASHING IS FASTER AND SO IS BACK DASHING”.

The use of capital letters across both tweets should go some way to illustrating how big of an issue some players thought the movement speed was, and how big for Mortal Kombat 1 the change is going to be. To make matters even better, series co-creator Ed Boon then confirmed that the movement speed had indeed been increasedsince the last time players got their hands on the game, resharing SonicFox’s post and saying, “Thanks to everyone who gave MK1 suggestions. We continue to encourage feedback from whomever gets a chance to play these early builds. Let’s make this game the best it can be together!”
