Mortal Kombat 1players aren’t happy with the new selection of Halloween-themed skins that just hit the Premium Store, as the ones added so far are just reskinned versions of the default outfits.
To say that Mortal Kombat 1’s launch has been a bit of a rocky ride would be an understatement. Although most fans are happy about the game’s roster, story mode, and gameplay, there are a lot of things about MK1 that have upset fans. Perhaps the biggest point of contention is the Premium Store, which offers players skins, Fatalities, and pieces of gear for Dragon Krystals, a currency that’s bought with real-world money.
Although Mortal Kombat 1’s latest update seems to have annoyed players again thanks to this new selection of skins, it did at least add Titan Battles to the game, meaning that the Platinum trophy is finally attainable.
A lot of the annoyance towards the Premium Store is due to the “predatory” high prices of everything on sale, but it’s not theonlyissue. Players also aren’t happy about the variety of skins that are on offer in both the store and Mortal Kombat 1 in general. One of the main complaints is that a lot of the alternate outfits are just recolours of the default costumes, while all the unique costumes are either kept for the Premium Store or locked away behind Invasions mode.
After the game’s first season of Invasions failed to impress in the costume department, everyone hoped that Mortal Kombat 1 would step it up for Halloween and season two, but so far it’s not looking too good.As pointed out by Twitter user Kitana_Nina, the Premium Store was just updated to add in a selection of new “Horror” skins for Baraka, Kung Lao, Nitara, and Rain, but they’re not exactly the most unique.
While sharing images of the skins, Kitana_Nina mockingly said, “they added green to default designs and called them halloween skins”, while another Mortal Kombat fan replied calling them “palette swaps”. To make matters worse, each skin costs around 500 Dragon Krystals, which works out to around £3.99 if you’re not buying a bundle of Krystals - that’s a lot to pay to add the colour green to one character.
It seems that Mortal Kombat 1 is going to have a pretty tough time with backlash towards its Halloween event,as the reaction to the reveal of a themed Fatality that costs $12 proved earlier this week.
The “horror” skins on offer here aren’t very impressive, but it does seem likely that Mortal Kombat 1 has more planned to go along with Halloween and the second season of Invasions, as the outfits shown above aren’t related to the seasonal store at all.Leaked cutscenes of Nitara’s season seemed to be hinting at vampire versions of the main roster, which is hopefully something we’ll see when Season 2 drops in a few days.
