Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Seth Parmer, Staff Writer
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is one my favorite games of all time and has been ever since I first played it all the way back in 2004 on the GameCube when I was only eight years old alongside my brother. For many reasons, this game is very special to me, so it being remade is the equivalent of a dream come true.
Everything from the music to the quirky writing and characters to the locations, such as the Excess Express, Glitzville, the dang moon, and much more, are seared into my mind. I cannot wait to dive head-first into my childhood again, be reunited with Mario and his rambunctious party members, and get struck by a wave of that sweet and cozy nostalgia!

Unicorn Overlord
Matt Arnold, Specialist Writer
Collector’s Editions don’t hold the allure that they once had for me, especially once they push a game’s price past the hundred-dollar mark. I might have to make an exception for Unicorn Overlord, though. Not only is it a tactical RPG from Vanillaware, but it includes one of the most compelling Collector’s Editions I’ve ever seen.
A snazzy box, artbook, soundtrack CDs, and some extra digital content are all pretty standard, but Unicorn Overlord is also offering a full-sized physical card game. It’s also nice to buy physical editions in the age of downloads; it feels so much better to have something you can hold.

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong
Ryan Hay, Writer
It is so incredibly hard to ignore the charm of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. Everything from watching Mario do his little handstands to the goofy story makes me excited for this game. Even the little Ninji characters with their silly red buttons look absolutely adorable.
Having never played the original one on the Game Boy Advance, this is the perfect opportunity to get the Mario Vs. experience. The part I’m looking forward to the most is being able to solve puzzles with a friend in co-op mode. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong doesn’t look like a particularly hard game, which is great for days when I just need some time to chill.

Little Nightmares 3
Amanda Hurych, Evergreen Content Lead
As much as I love the minimalist stylings of Limbo and Inside, the art direction of Little Nightmares hooked me heart, mind, and soul the minute I first laid eyes on it. I’m a huge fan of both the first and second game, so I can’t wait for Little Nightmares 3 to launch. And the cherry on top is the fact that this entry in the delightfully macabre series will include two-player co-op. That means I’ll be able to shriek and hop my little character through whatever harsh world they live in with a friend by my side.
Also, if I end up playing this solo, what better way to experience its imaginative terror and disquieting imagery than on my Switch? I can take the game to bed and play it right before I go to sleep. It’s the stuff of literal nightmares.

Professor Layton And The New World Of Steam
Axel Nicolás Bosso, Evergreen Trainer And Editor
At the time of writing these lines, 2024 is a mystery for Nintendo fans. Well, more or less for anyone that plays on any of the other consoles, but Nintendo’s case is special. We are still waiting for official news on a new console that has been hinted at for ages now. Will 2024 finally be the year that we know more about it? If that’s the case, it’s most likely that plenty of first-party games will be on the way. In the meantime, the return of one of my favorite puzzle series ever made will have to fill this spot.

Princess Peach: Showtime
Stacey Henley, Editor-in-Chief
Yes, there is a non-zero chance that a Princess Peach game will end up like a shallow version of Mario, where everything is fluffy and easy and pink. But I have high hopes that after trying to round Peach out in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and giving her more of a personality in Odyssey, Nintendo will give us something a little bolder.
A different type of Mario game with fresh powers, a less stale storyline than just saving a kingdom, and more development for Peach is something to relish. After the Nintendo Direct trailer, most of my fears have been allayed, and I can’t wait to slash enemies with my sword and bake a cake as Peach next year.

Metroid Prime 4
James Troughton, Cross-Department Editor
I haven’t played Metroid Prime 2 or 3, and I only just played the first game, but I’m dying for another experience like it. Especially since the 2D Metroid games, or anything similar like Hollow Knight, never clicked with me. That’s partly because I’m an idiot who can’t memorise two-dimensional spaces, and partly because I’m awful at side-scroller platforming and shooting. The mythical Metroid Prime 4 is just what I need to continue my delve into an iconic gaming series I’ve mostly left untouched. If it ever comes out.
Garden Life
Meg Pelliccio, Lead Guides Editor
I hadn’t heard of Garden Life beforechecking it out at Gamescom, but it’s now one of the games I’m looking forward to the most for 2024. I’m convinced it’ll be the next obsession for PowerWash Simulator fans, as it hits that same sweet spot of the perfect game to relax with, as you take care of a community garden, completing quests, tending to the plants, and decorating to your heart’s content.
One of the most impressive things about Garden Life is that it uses procedurally generated plants, so no two are alike. Environmental factors affect how plants grow, and you can prune them back stem by stem if you wish. I can’t wait to lose myself to endless hours in a virtual garden. Sorry, real garden. I don’t have time for you now.

Neva
Helen Ashcroft, Evergreen Trainer And Editor
Neva will tell the story of a young woman bound to a wolf through dark magic and the pair’s journey. They’ll face an increasingly dark and dangerous landscape as they seek a home to call their own.

It all sounds very emotional and something I’d usually be sceptical about. However, Neva is from the team behind Gris, which was so utterly captivating and devastating in equal measure, that I need to see what’s next from this talented team.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD
Josh Coulson, Affiliates Editor
A lot of series passed me by when I insisted on playing nothing but FIFA for 15 years, and while I’ve been gradually catching up with most of what I missed, Luigi’s Mansion has continued to pass me by. Odd, as spin-offs of big-time Nintendo series tend to grab my attention more than the main entries themselves.
I fully expect Luigi’s Mansion 2 to suck me in (get it?) in 2024 and hope it leads right into me trying 3 out too. The perfect way to say goodbye to the Switch. Despite all the games Nintendo suddenly has coming to the Switch in 2024, I’m assuming Nintendo still plans on replacing it in 2024.
