Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2isn’t getting a proper physical launch onNintendo Switch, according to online storefronts. Both Walmart and Best Buy’s listings of the game carry a warning that there will be no cartridge in the box, just a code for a digital download.PlayStationandXboxlistings don’t have this warning, so if true, it seems to be related to an issue with Switch’s weaker hardware.

Neither developer Ludosity nor publisher Gamemil has confirmed the news, so it’s possible that the listings were made in error. However, given that they use an image of the game’s case with the no-cartridge warning, it’s looking likely that there’s no point in picking up Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2’s “physical” edition on Switch.

This development was spotted by fans in the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Discord server and has been met with significant disappointment. Coinciding with many digital storefronts losing their entire game libraries due to the servers being taken down, it’s not a great time to release a digital-only game, as fans will be well aware that the game won’t be theirs forever. Once the Switch store is taken down for good, you may not be able to install the game again.

Of course, that potential issue is years down the line. The more immediate concern is that a “physical” release without an actual cartridge is just a waste of plastic. Really, there’s no difference between getting a boxed version than there is just buying it on the Nintendo eShop, unless you’re picking it up as a present for someone else.

However, this could be a sign that theNickelodeon All-Star Brawlsequel is a bit more demanding than its predecessor, which launched on Switch just fine back in 2021. This hopefully means we can expect a bunch of improvements, as the first game fizzled out not long after launch, and faced criticism for lacking basic features like voice acting for some time.

That said, you definitely don’t want to rush a game for Nintendo Switch. The most recent offender of this isMortal Kombat 1, which isan absolute disaster on the platform. The graphical quality has been reduced so severely that it’s laughable, immediately getting roasted by fans.NetherRealmhas promised fixes, but reputationally, the damage is done. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 may avoid this fate since it’s, presumably, a less demanding game, and is still launching on last gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Mortal Kombat 1 skipped this, but still went for the Switch release, for some reason.

In any case, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is set to launch on June 29, 2025.
