Nintendo is holding a Direct on August 31 dedicated entirely toSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. The stream will begin at 10am ET (3pm BST) and last “roughly 15 minutes”. you may catch the event on the official Nintendo YouTube which is also hosted on its website.
Nintendo’s last Direct washeld on June 21only a couple of months ago and it was there that Super Mario Bros. Wonder was first announced after weeks of rumours, leaks, and speculation. We haven’t heard much about the game since, but fans have been picking apart its trailer and all footage shared to find whatever clues and easter eggs they can.

One of the most bizarre and niche discoveries made wasa reference to the anime tie-in movie Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!(AKA Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach). Like most Mario stories, this movie was all about Peach getting kidnapped, with Mario and his brother Luigi setting off to rescue the princess. It introduced a character called Haru, the prince of the Flower Kingdom. Bowser had turned him into a dog so he could marry Peach in his place. And in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder trailer, we see a level with the caption, “Welcome to the Flower Kingdom!”
The trailer also revealed that Super Mario Bros. Wonder will beDaisy’s debut in a mainline game, which is an incredibly long time coming and something fans, including our own Editor-in-Chief Stacey Henley, were quick to celebrate. It also gave us a glimpse at the new Mario actor, asCharles Martinet recently announced that he had retired from the role. That means someone new has stepped up to voice the Italian plumber. And to boot, the trailer revealed that Super Mario Bros. Wonder isditching the ‘New’ stylethat grew infamous in its nearly 20-year dominance. Again, fans were quick to celebrate.
Funnily enough,Mario will also be contending with Sonicwhen Wonder rolls around, reigniting an age-old platformer rivalry. Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches on October 20, the same daySpider-Man 2comes out, but only three days prior, a new entry into the world of 2D Sonic games, dubbed Superstars, will be launching. October is jam-packed full of big hitters, we’ll have to wait and see if Sonic can hold his own against Mario and Spider-Man.
