TheSwitchhas beenNintendo’s newest console longer than anything to have come before it, its seventh birthday now just six months away. While it seems incredibly likely we will have heard something official about whatever’s coming next by that point, Nintendo is very keen to make what might well be the Switch’s last holiday season on top really count. Not only through a slate of new games that will likely close the Switch’s run with a bang, but also via some new special edition consoles and bundles.

One of the bundles revealed by Nintendo this week was a Switch that comes with a copy ofMario Kart 8 Deluxeand three months ofNintendo Switch Online. NSO will not only allow you to race against people all over the world, but also gives you access to the service’s growingNES,SNES, andGame Boylibraries. You will need to pay extra for the Expansion Pack if you want access to Mario Kart’s DLC tracks and theN64andSega Genesislibraries, though.

You might think it’s a little odd to bundle a regular Switch with a five-year-old game. Why not bundle it with something newer likeTears of the KingdomorPikmin 4? Well, as well as both of those games have performed, nothing on the Switch even comes close to the success of Nintendo’s latest Mario Kart game. At 55 million copies sold, it’s not only the best-selling Switch game by far, but it’s comfortably among the best-selling games of all time.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Nintendo Switch Bundle

This Nintendo Switch bundle comes with the base console, a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and three months of Nintendo Switch Online.

The console costs $300 which, considering what you get with it, is a pretty good deal. Nintendo games that sell well are very rarely reduced so that’s $60 for the game alone, and three months of NSO is $7.99. A Switch without a game or NSO subscription still isn’t much less than that, so definitely savings to be made here.

You might also wonder why this bundle doesn’t include an OLED Switch instead of the base model. Probably because it is clearly very much aimed at those who not only don’t have a Switch, but are also pretty casual, maybe even non-gamers. Everyone who actively wants a Switch already has one by now and already has a copy of Mario Kart. This bundle is an attempt to get as many people on board the Switch bandwagon before Nintendo officially starts to move on. If that’s you, although pre-orders are now live, the bundle won’t ship until October 6.

If you are in the market for a Switch but the bundle above doesn’t appeal to you, Nintendo also revealedtwo new Switch Lite modelsthis week. Both come with a digital copy ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsand you can either pick the teal Timmy and Tommy’s edition or the coral Isabelle edition.
