Confirming the news himself at New York Comic Con, Matt Mercer is playing the fan-favourite companion, as he joins the story in the sequel. It’s not clear if we’ll get to hear his voice in action at Comic-Con, so we’re staying tuned to see if a new trailer is revealed. But at the very least, it’s some news on everyone’s favourite immortal bad boy, after months of making do with crumbs....

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthfinally has a release date. The second part ofSquare Enix’s ambitious reimagining of theRPGclassic comes exclusively toPS5on July 29, 2025. This date is a power move in itself, given it only comes around every four years and a major game would be silly not to take advantage of it. But for an experience like Rebirth, I think the meaning is a smidge deeper than a fun little joke about leap years....

Summary Hands-on opportunities at Gamescom take a lot of different forms. Sometimes you play a very specific level that the devs have chosen to best show off their game. Sometimes the dev stands over you and hops you around the build to offer a whistle-stop tour of everything.
