Though it’s a fantastic genre, horror movies and games always tend to have moments that — often hilariously — don’t make sense. Whether you’ve just witnessed the most bizarre, impossible death, or you’re watching a character walk directly into a killer’s clutches, it’s fair to say that moments like these are sort of a requirement in the genre.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre series is absolutely no exception. Each movie and the video game have some pretty ridiculous moments mixed in with all the terror. Whether it’s a technical issue or something completely nonsensical, the game has plenty of moments that will frustrate you or make you laugh. These are some things that just don’t make sense inThe Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
7When In Doubt, Fall Down A Well
you’re able to be bleeding out or seconds away from being mauled with Leatherface’s chainsaw, but there’s always a way out. No matter what kind of situation you’re in, you can always jump down a well.
And that’s not even the most surprising part about it. Jumping down the well protects you in more ways than one, so you’re safe to jump no matter how close you are to being chopped up. The number of wells, all of which conveniently lead to the basement, is also puzzling. Why are there so many, and why are they there? The wells don’t serve any other purpose on the property than providing a sure-fire escape plan.

6New Characters
The victims aren’t the only new characters in the game. Two new characters were added to the Sawyer Family tree:SissyandJohnny. With so many films, you may assume Johnny and Sissy have appeared before. But the two characters are entirely new.

They both have their own unique backstories as well, which play off of other horror movie tropes. Both of these characters may be loosely based on existing TCM characters. Still, if this were true, why create new ones?
5Where’s Chop Top?
On the topic of new characters, one existing character is notably missing: Chop Top, the Hitchhiker’s twin brother. Chop Top first appears in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Part 2 as a sort of scarier replacement for the Hitchhiker. He’s easily one of the most disturbing and popular characters in the series, sporting a head made of metal and skin that he’s always picking at.
Chop Top is only really significant in the second film, but he still left a lasting impression on fans. Maybe it comes down to legality, but it’s strange that such a popular character wouldn’t make the cut.

4Grandpa Has Superpowers
Grandpa’s always been a weird guy, but since when does he have superpowers? The more blood you feed Grandpa, the more powerful he gets. Through Grandpa, all family members can detect victims on the property.
Once Grandpa’s appetite is fully satisfied, none of the victims can hide and all become visible on the screen—no matter how still you’re standing, how quiet you’re being, or how deep you are underground. Obviously, this is a huge benefit if you’re playing one of the family members, especially if you’re having trouble finding victims. Still, there’s no explanation for why or how he has this new ability, or why he’s suddenly so loud. Seriously, what is he yelling for?

3Map Layouts
There are three maps to choose from: theSlaughterhouse,Gas Station, andFamily House. Each property is based on the films, specifically the 1974 film. But despite having different names, the layouts of the maps aren’t so different.

At first, you may not even realize there are different maps, but just different areas of the same one. Why have different maps if they’re all going to look virtually the same? This also affects the gameplay, as all the exits begin to look and feel redundant, rather than an exciting new challenge.
2Coordination And Lack Thereof
“Let’s split up” and “We need to stick together” are phrases you hear far too often in the horror genre. The latter tends to always be the better choice, as splitting up often results in getting picked off one by one. This sentiment carries into the game, as it’s recommended that both teams coordinate with each other.
The tricky side to this is noise-making. It makes sense to stay together; this way you can heal each other, open doors for one another, and distract the family when needed. But what good is staying together if it gets you caught? All that extra noise and movement can be more of a detriment to your team than a benefit.

1Some Things Make Too Much Noise
It makes sense that some actions in the environment will make noise. It can lead a killer to a victim, or alert a victim that a killer is coming — though there are some exceptions to this. But that doesn’t explain how nearly everything you do and touch makes noise.
While some things make the game more exciting, like the bone decorations in doorways, others are a bit overkill. Anything you do, except for walking, will cause noise. Picking locks, opening boxes and doors, you name it — nearly everything you do can and will draw attention to you.
