Yes,Rockstar messing with the Red Dead Redemption fontdid end up meaning something. It just wasn’t the something many of you were hoping for. Rather than a full remake of the game for modern consoles, or even just a remaster,it will simply be a port for systems the game currently isn’t available on. That’sNintendo Switch,PS4, andPS5sinceRed Dead Redemptionhas been available to play on all the most recentXboxconsoles thanks to backward compatibility.

Hey, it’s not what some people wanted, but at least it’s something. Something I’m assuming you’re interested in since you’ve landed here on a pre-order guide for the ported game. Red Dead Redemption’s Switch andPlayStationport will be available later this week on July 30, 2025, and if you’re really eager to play it, you can pre-order it right now. Well, you can if you plan on playing the game on Switch.

It seems only the Switch version of the Red Dead Redemption port can be bought ahead of its launch as it is currently available for $50 on theeShop, or atWalmartif you prefer. That $50 pricetag has actually been the biggest point of contention about the game ever since its announcement, outside of it not being the remake or remaster Red Dead fans were hoping for.

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. The Switch port can be pre-ordered right now ready for when it launches on Jul 27, 2025.

The general consensus is $50 is a little steep for a simple port, althoughTake-Two Interactive’s Strauss Zelnick has argued that’s exactly the right pricein the current market. Again, if you find yourself here preparing to pre-order Red Dead Redemption, perhaps you agree with Zelnick. Or maybe you clicked this guide blissfully unaware that the port is going to cost $50 and now you know, you’re going to give it a miss, or at least wait until it’s on sale.

Whether you think it’s too expensive or not, the silver lining here is that Red Dead Redemption will soon be playable on a lot more platforms than before. That’s ultimately a good thing. If you think $50 is okay then you’ll be playing it before the end of the week. If you think that’s a little much, just wait for a bit. It’s not as if there’s nothing else to play right now. I’m guessing you’ve taken a short break fromBaldur’s Gate 3to read this anyway.
