A lot can happen in the city of New Atlantis, and the United Colonies Security Office handles the more mundane aspects of crime. As an officer of the UC Vanguard, you help out part-time inStarfield, offering assistance on cases while there’s a shortage of officers for Sergeant Yumi to send out.

As part of your part-time work with Sergeant Yumi, you’ll have to help sort out cases involving the people of New Atlantis, and you’ll have to deal with some of the more entitled citizens. Working as an officer lets you make crucial decisions on the job that determine the outcome.

Sergeant Yumi has more work for you. When you speak to him, he’ll send you toinvestigate vandalism in the NAT Stationby the MAST District. There’s already an officer on-scene, but they could use the help.

You canfind Officer Markkanen on the scene, talking to a witness. When you speak to her, she tells youthere are two witnesses: the one in front of her and Functionary Gershon.Both of them have conflicting statements.

Officer Markkanen wants to get the details from Functionary Gershon again, so you’ll need tohead into the MAST buildingand take theelevator up to Interstellar Affairs.

How To Get The Evidence

When you arrive at Interstellar Affairs,Functionary Gershon is headed to a meetingand will speak with you and Sergeant Yumi later. He allows you tosearch his computer and deskfor the evidence you need, though he’s certain you’llfind Tahir Vala guilty.

If you’ve completedThe Kindness Of Strangersquest previously, you’ll recognize Tahir Vala and get a better sense of what’s going on.

Go to Functionary Gershon’s deskand take a look around. There are several items of note, such as the book on his desk and the clothes in his trash can. The main objective, however, is the computer.Interact with the computerto access the statement and evidence.

You’ll notice that the book is A Tale of Two Cities, the same book the witness from the tram mentioned. In the trash is an outfit that matches the description as well.

It’s important that you pick up the clothes from the trash and the book as evidence.

After youopen the folder labeled “Tahir Vala”, the quest will update and tell you tospeak with Officer Markkanenabout your findings.

Should You Arrest Tahir Vala Or Functionary Gershon?

Once you gather evidence, you’ll need to speak with Officer Markkanen about the culprit. You’ll have tomake a decisionhere about whom to arrest for the vandalism.

You can tell Officer Markkanen that Sergeant Yumi is the culprit, but she won’t take you seriously.

Arresting Tahir Vala

Tell Officer Markkanen that Functionary Gershon is right, and you’ll be directed toarrest Tahir Vala in The Well. Head down there tofind him in Kay’s House.

If you’ve helped Tahir before, he’ll have additional dialogue lines that reference your previous encounter.

When you arrest him,he goes peacefullybut voices his disdain for the UC Security all the while. Officer Markkanen sends youback to Sergeant Yumito report the arrest.

When you return to Sergeant Yumi, you’ll learn that between Tahir’s previous record, Functionary Gershon’s statement, and your involvement in the arrest,Tahir is likely to be locked up for a long while. Nevertheless,you’ll get your reward.

Arresting Functionary Gershon

If youtell Officer Markkanen that Functionary Gershon is the true culprit, she’ll ask you for evidence. While you don’t have to present it to her, it’s a clear indicator of what you’ll need to put the Functionary away.

If you haven’t already grabbed the book and the clothes, now is the time to do it.

You’ll need toreport back to Sergeant Yumito tell him the news. When you arrive,Functionary Gershon is already there, having given his official sworn statement that Tahir is responsible.Talk to Sergeant Yumiand reveal the truth.

Functionary Gershon will cause a scene, butSergeant Yumi willask you to provide evidencethat proves your claims are true. You’ll be entered intoan eight-stage persuasion attempt.

The fastest way to pass the attempt is to use the evidence dialogue options. They will quickly boost your success rate and improve your odds of convincing him of the truth.

If you fail the check, Sergeant Yumi will say that he can’t press any chargesuntil you find evidence. You’ll be sent to find some, which would be at Functionary Gershon’s desk.

Return with the evidenceand speak to Sergeant Yumi. He believes you andputs Functionary Gershon in a holding cell. The sergeant is thankful for your help, and a little sentimental.

This will be yourlast job as a part-time officer, and yourreward is the sameregardless of your choice: 4,800 credits.
