There is certainly no lack of things to do inMoonrise TowersofBaldur’s Gate 3. Secrets can easily get overlooked between infiltrating the Cult of the Absolute, rescuing helpless refugees, and chasing down immortal generals intent on world domination.

If you take the time to speak to the inhabitants of Moonrise, however, you might learn about some Suspicious Sounds emanating from a corner of the tower. Still, this hidden encounter is not to be missed, as it’ll provide some insight into the game’s underlying plot and can even reveal an area—and a mindflayer parasite specimen—that might otherwise go undiscovered.

Baldur’s Gate 3 - Player standing in front of Cracked Wall in Moonrise Towers

Updated June 30, 2025, by Sean Murray:As any D&D player knows, suspicious sounds are always worth investigating. If you’re looking for those suspicious sounds in BG3, then this guide will tell you where to go and what to do once you find them. We’ve also updated this guide with fresh formatting to make it easier to read and given it more links to other helpful Baldur’s Gate 3 topics.

Where To Find The Suspicious Sounds

You’ll first be alerted to the presence of these Suspicious Soundsby talking to Mig, the ogre in themain hall of Moonrise Towers. She’ll complain about “meat noises,” which appear to be the loudest in thekitchen. This will mark a ‘Suspicious Sounds’ marker on your map.

Alternatively, you can also get the Suspicious Sounds marker by heading through themain entrance of Moonrise Towers(facing the Absolute’s Door), thenturning left through a doorwayto find someMucus blocking a doorwayto the east.

Baldur’s Gate 3 - Player speaking to the Absolute

To investigate the Suspicious Sounds, however, you’ll need to getonto the rafters of the towers. you may do this by climbing aladder to the northeast of the main hallof Moonrise Towers(X:-138, Y:-165), thenjumping eastuntil youfind a Cracked Wall with tentaclescoming out of it.

Choices And Consequences Of Sticking Your Hand In The Cracked Wall

At the Cracked Wall, you’ll be able to make aDC 14 Arcana (Int) checkto investigate the noise. After that, you’ll have a choice ofsticking your hand into the crackorleaving. But of course, you didn’t battle deranged doctors and shadow monstrosities to come all this way and chicken out at weird wall meat, did you?

After sticking your hand through, you’ll start getting dragged into the consciousness in the wall. You can make a variety of checks (Strength, Dexterity and Sleight of Hand) to wiggle out, but if you want to discover the secret behind all this, you’ll need tofail the check or simply do nothing.

Failing the checks(or letting the tentacles take their course)will shunt you into a cutscenewhere you get tospeak withthe Absoluteand learn more about them, as well as the ‘Chosen’ who are behind all this.

After some discussion, the tentacle will again try to drag you deeper. Again,we recommend letting it do its thing, as this willput your character in the Oubliette—an area under the Moonrise Towers that can be accessible otherwise through the Moonrise Prisons.

Check the corpses in the Oubliette for aMindflayer Parasite Specimen, battle someHook Horrorsfor some extra experience, and you’ll find yourself emerging into the prison area of the tower, where you can continue your adventure.
