Ever sinceMortal Kombat 1’slaunch, when fans eagerly dove into the story and towers to uncover as much as possible about Fire God Liu Kang’s new world, players have assumed the guy pictured next to Sub-Zero to beSektor, one of the three Lin Keui cyborgs.

According to prominent and reliable leaker Fate Unknown (dubbed a “Verified Insider” on the MK leaks subreddit), he isn’t. It’s an easy mistake to make. We see him designing the iconic cyborg armour while Sub-Zero says, “We’ve invested much into this endeavor, and we are beginning to see results. Once again proving the depths of Sektor’s genius.”

Sektor and Cyrax appear in the game as Kameos, but we don’t see their faces as they’re in cyborg armour.

Anyone would jump to the conclusion that it’s Sektor, but in reality, they’re likely just a random Lin Kuei member putting Sektor’s work into practice, designing suits based on his schematics. It’s also not Cyrax or Smoke, the other two parts of Triborg. We know what Smoke looks like, andleaks claim that Cyrax is a woman in this timeline.

That means we still don’t know what two parts of Triborg look like - Cyrax and Sektor. How Fate Unknown is so confident that this isn’t Sektor also isn’t clear as they didn’t follow up on the post - they’ve been MIA for weeks, only returning to drop this vague comment. It’s possible they’ve seen what MK1’s Sektor looks like and that’s how they know, but until they say, we can only speculate.

Spoilers for Mortal Kombat 1’s story and leaked DLC.

During the story, Bi-Han (Sub-Zero) betrays Liu Kang and sets the Lin Keui on a new path for ultimate power, abandoning their purpose of protecting Earthrealm.

According to previous leaks, MK1’s DLC will follow on from this ending, starting with Kuai Liang’s (Scorpion’s) wedding being interrupted by an attack from Bi-Han and the Lin Keui. They get taken prisoner, but Titan Havik attacks, forcing Scorpion and Sub-Zero to work together again.

During this DLC story, Bi-Han will reportedly become Noob Saibot. In the original timeline, he becomes NS after dying and being resurrected, but in the DLC, Titan Havik will allegedly be responsible. How that ties into the introduction of the cyborg Lin Keui is unclear, but Sub-Zero’s tower ending sets up that future, so we know it’s on the horizon.

At any rate, we’re back in the dark on who Sektor is and what they look like. Until we get our hands on the expansion, we’ll have to make do with this random engineer.
