Marvel’s Spider-Man 2developer,Insomniac Gamesis open to making a Venom spin-off. That’s at least according to a senior dev, who strongly hints that the idea is being floated around with it all depends on the feedback the team gets from fans.

While stressing that Insomniac’s time is currently dedicated to ongoing development for Spider-Man 2, the developer suggests that the studio would make a Venom game, should the feedback towards his latest depiction be positive amongst fans. This would be the second spin-off in the series, withMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralespreviously filling the gap between the two mainline entries.

This comes from senior narrative director Jon Paquette while speaking withInsider. Here, Paquette reveals that Insomniac is monitoring the fan response to Spider-Man 2, and will adjust its plans for the future accordingly.

When asked specifically about Venom getting an entire game of his own, this is what Paquette had to say: “So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on Spider-Man 2, and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react.”

He continues, “We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want? We’ll kind of talk about stuff after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations,”

While we shouldn’t expect Insomniac to have anything cooking just yet - Spider-Man 2 only launched today, of course - this is a pretty strong indication that it wants to create another smaller game, just like Miles Morales, about Venom. With Miles now a main character in the big sequel, it stands to reason that Insomniac would be looking to shine the light on another character this time around.

That said, if what Paquette says is true, then another character entirely could get the spotlight. If fans gravitate towards another character in Spider-Man 2, then maybe we’ll get a spin-off about them instead. It’s likely to still be a long way off in any case, with the Miles Morales game launching two years after the first Insomniac Spider-Man title.

Hopefully, Paquette’s comments confirm that we’ll get some kind of spin-off, and won’t have to wait another five years for the full sequel. There’s enough going on in Spider-Man 2 to keep you busy for now though, even if it’s justgoing through all the new spidey suits, the most important part of any Spider-Man journey, of course.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out now, available exclusively on PS5.
