Spider-Man 2’s latest patch has removed a boundary break glitch that was allowing players to take Venom out of his scripted mission and explore New York City.

Just like every Spider-Man fan was hoping would be the case before launch, Spider-Man 2 lets you play as Venom in a brutal sequence towards the end of the game. As awesome as it is to rip through Oscorp as Venom, the carnage is pretty short overall and only lasts for about 20 minutes or so, leaving a lot of fans wanting more.

Venom’s playable section in Spider-Man 2 might be short, but he’s clearly set up for a bigger role in the series' future, something that Insomniac Games has even teased that it’s interested in doing.

As gamers have proven time and time again, though, when there’s a will, there’s a glitch that’ll give you exactly what you want.Tricky Spider-Man 2 players discovered that Venom could actually be broken out of boundsfrom his Oscorp mission simply by clambering up the buildings surrounding Times Square during the section of the mission before he fights Kraven.

Doing that would let you run around New York City as Venom to your heart’s content, which was a bit of a trek considering he can’t swing anywhere and can only leap around. He might not have been able to swing, but at least he could do what Peter Parker couldn’t -the Wakanda Salute.

Spider-Man 2 players had a lot of fun with that glitch and, after two updates that seemingly ignored it completely, it looked like it was sticking around. That sadly isn’t the case, however, as the most recent patch for Spider-Man 2, Patch 1.001.005,not only makes another attempt to kill off Spider-Man turning into a white cube, but it also removes the boundary break entirely.

This was showcased on the Spider-Man PS4 subreddit by Redditor AKQX, who shared a video of them trying to escape from Times Square as Venom. As you may see from the footage, trying to break out of Times Square as Venom now just causes you to get sent straight back to where you were, leaving Venom looking like an open-mouthed idiot as he tries desperately to escape his playable sequence.

As you can imagine, Spider-Man 2 players aren’t too happy about the removal of what is a pretty harmless glitch, complaining underneath the Reddit post that it didn’t need to be removed. It seems like it’s just Venom’s boundary break that’s been fixed so far, as the comments point out that Young Peter and MJ can still be taken out of where they’re supposed to be.
