The first issue of theSpider-ManUnlimited Infinity comic has given us a look at howInsomniac Games' Peter Parker is handling Aunt May’s death and, uh, it looks like he’s not doing so well.
A lot happened to Insomniac Games' version of Peter Parker in 2018’s Spider-Man game. Some of it good, like repairing his relationship with MJ and forming a bond with Miles Morales, but most of it bad, like being betrayed by Otto Octavius and having the snot kicked out of him by the Sinister Six. The worst of it, though, was undoubtedly when he had to choose between saving the city from a disease or curing Aunt May, who was on the brink of death and would have needed the whole vial to survive.

As we all remember, Peter made the heartbreaking choice to let May die for the good of the city, something that we’ve not really seen him deal with all that much.Spider-Man: Miles Moralesgave us a little glimpse into his psyche and how he was dealing with things (seemingly having gotten over it),but the first issue of Spider-Man Unlimited Infinity(a new comic series that’s exclusive to Marvel Unlimited) shows us that he’s far from over it.

In the issue, 616 Spider-Man and Insomniac Games Spider-Man run into each other for the first time since Spider-Geddon and end up getting in a fight pretty much instantly. Although Insomniac Games Spider-Man has the upper hand for most of the battle,things take a turn when 616 Spider-Man mentions Uncle Ben and Aunt May to Insomniac’s Peter.
After hearing their names, he says, “Keep Aunt May’s name out of your mouth” and punches 616 Spider-Man as hard as he can in the face (something that a lot of current Marvel fans are no doubt happy to see). Peter then emotionally breaks down and talks about how frustrating it is that he can’t just use the power he has for his own good and try to get ahead in life like the villains he’s constantly fighting do.
Peter then justifies his choice and says, “Because Ben and May would be so disappointed… and why am I even still alive if it isn’t to honour them? I just miss them so much”. It’s a surprising display of emotion from Insomniac’s version of the character as, so far at least, we’ve not really seen him get upset about Aunt May’s death or even really mention Uncle Ben all that much. It’s clear that he’s definitely not dealt with Aunt May’s death in the time since the first game, something that might even come into play in Spider-Man 2.
