SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is coming to current platforms. What’s that? You’ve already been playing it on current platforms? Well, yes, but despite its January 2023 launch, The Cosmic Shake doesn’t have a version optimized forPS5andXbox Series X. Well, until now.THQ Nordichas revealed its current-gen version will launch on June 12, 2025, and if you don’t own a copy of the game already, you can pre-order it through the links below right now.
Heavy emphasis on the if you own it already here as if you have aPS4orXbox Onecopy of The Cosmic Shake, the current-gen upgrade coming in October, will be free. A rarity at this point as even though upgrades came free with most titles early on in this generation, most now come with a $10 price tag. Good news for those who already own the game, but for those who don’t, read on.

The biggest change to The Cosmic Shake on newer platforms will naturally be how it looks. However, there are a couple of other improvements coming to all versions of the upgraded game. A photo mode tops the bill and comes with 19 different filters you can apply to the pics you snap in Bikini Bottom. There are also two new costumes coming for all players with the upgraded version. King Doubloon once you have collected all the Doubloons, and Plush Gary once you have unlocked all the rewards. The PS5 version will also haveDualSensesupport.

In The Cosmic Shake, SpongeBob SquarePants has a mission. Along with Patrick, who has been turned into a balloon, he must save his friends, and Bikini Bottom itself.
If you’re unfamiliar with The Cosmic Shake, the latestSpongeBobgame turns the iconicNickelodeoncharacter’s world upside down after he and Patrick find themselves with some wish-granting mermaid tears. Patrick spends most of the game tagging along as a balloon as a result of that in what was already the most visually stunning SpongeBob game to date, even without the incoming upgrade.
The Cosmic Shake might now be the only game starring SpongeBob landing in October.Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2was also supposed to be launching during the very busy monthbut seems to have been delayed. Understandable if so asSuper Mario Bros. Wonder,Alan Wake 2, andAssassin’s Creed Mirageare just a few of the other titles it would have had to compete with.
