If you collect what can only be called the squishiest, cuddliest plushes around, then you’re the intended audience for this card game — especially as it comes with an exclusive mini Squishmallow of Benny the Bigfoot.

As with most card games, getting the hang of the rules is the first hurdle, but Take4 keeps things straightforward and simple, meaning even younger children should be able to grasp it within the first few minutes of a game.
You have two sets of cards — ones with the different types of Squishmallows on them and ones with either 1, 2, 3, or 4 printed on them. Each player receives a full set of number cards, and another set is placed in the middle of the table. Benny, the Squishmallow, is placed in the center, so he’s within reach of all players.

Then, the Squishmallow cards are shuffled, and one is placed under each numbered card on the table. After that, every player decides which Squishmallow card they want, and selects the corresponding number card from their pile. Everyone counts down from three, and reveals their chosen card. If two people have chosen the same one, they must rush to be the first person to grab Benny and win the Squishmallow card.
Your aim is to collect four Squishmallow cards from the same group — Classic, Food, Fantasy, and Sealife — but they must all be different characters, so you may’t have repeats.
While playing with my girlfriend, we quickly learned that attempting to sabotage the other player, instead of simply building up your own collection of Squishmallows, was definitely the most fun way to play. After the first turn, you know which cards the other players are going to start collecting, so you can try to grab them before they can.
This soon lead to numerous turns where we rushed to grab Benny. Instead of trying to win, we just wanted the other person tonotwin. Ironically, this ended the game in the most anticlimactic way — a draw. There doesn’t seem to be any ‘official’ way to settle a draw, other than being the first to grab Benny once again — though, that is the most exciting part of the game, so who’s to complain?
The game recommends two to four players, but it definitely seems as though it would be more of a challenge and be more engaging if there were at least three. With two players, there’s less variety and you can easily figure out which cards they’re going to try to play for, and it’s far too tempting to resort to sabotage, instead of playing how the game was intended.
At just under $15 on Amazon and its official site, Squishmallows Take4 is a fun game for younger Squishmallows fans.
