Starfieldand Imagine Dragons have teamed up for a new single, Children of the Sky. But this is Imagine Dragons, so the reaction is mostly along the lines of “this song is pure crap”.

“Cancelling my pre-order”, @Schilling_Spree immediately commented. “Thanks for the warning. I almost bought Starfield,” @databasemanimal said. “The game looks amazing, but that song is so bad,” @DeadBryam said. “No god no,” @Knate98 said.

The announcement was shared across Starfield and Bethesda’s socials, with the latter saying, “We’re honoured that Imagine Dragons took inspiration from Starfield for their new single, Children of the Sky”. Inspiration meaning buckets of cash and a marketing deal. This came accompanied by a compilation video showing several of the planetswe’ll be visiting next week. But the comments were quickly flooded with reactionary GIFs and people dunking on Imagine Dragons. Truly, the Nickelback of our times.

To break down just why people hate Imagine Dragons, let’s dig into a couple of the answers toa question posed on the Music subreddit two years ago.

“Formulaic garbage,” PattyIce32 said. “Their songs are soulless, they all sound the same and they are overplayed.”

“Overexposure,” PixelLumi said. “The fact that they are playing everywhere and the fact that their most popular song is their extremely minimalistic song Thunder instead of one of their better songs results in them being one of the most hated bands in the music industry.”

Hence why any mention of them is usually followed by groans and comments along the lines of, ‘This is awful!’ It’s par for the course. No doubt another band will take its place as inoffensively ‘okay’ in ten years' time. For now, we have threads of comments on Starfield socials to cement that sentiment, like @SpectreSaunders' - “I’m really looking forward to the game, but… Imagine Dragons? Really? This is the first Starfield L I’ve seen.”

“This goes so hard on mute,” @MischiefsYT said. “Bro you’re able to’t even escape Imagine Dragons if you go to space,” @Skarrow9 said. “It’s really impressive how they manage to make the same song over and over again,” @argkitsune said.

It’s not the first time Imagine Dragons has worked closely with a video game project. They made a song called Enemy with JID forthe League of Legends Netflix series Arcane. “Are Imagine Dragons just making promo music for games now?” @Mandarino__ asked.
