FewStarfieldquests are quite so majestic in notion, yet humorous in conclusion, as ‘Heart of Mars’. It’s an early-game grab, if you’re poking around Cydonia, and it’s a useful little tutorial on expanding one’s horizons by checking out planetary caverns.
But ‘Heart of Mars’ is also a bit of good old-fashioned Martian fun, and your quest-giver is frankly surprised you even bother with it. Don’t get us wrong, though - it’s well worth the trouble, even if the ending’s a bit of a cold slap relative to the legend you’ll be told.
Finding The Heart Of Mars
Head down to the mines in Cydonia.The mines are the farthest part of the cityfrom the entrance, meaning it’s a straight trip to the far end regardless of which level you’re on. To find the miners themselves, you’ll need to be on thelowest level, which is where all their daily work gets done finding the ore Cydonia needs to keep itself going.
Various miners will mumble about the Heart of Mars, but it’sa woman named Laylah whom you’ll need to speak within order to get things kicking. If it’s nighttime when you’re poking around for her, she’ll either been route to her bunk in the miners' quarters or fast asleep there. Don’t worry about waking her - this is a Bethesda Game Studios RPG through and through, so she’ll hardly mind.
Get Laylah talking about the Heart of Mars, and after more than a bit of bluster,she will give you the coordinates to the supposed location. Now,depart Mars, and select the new coordinates via planetary mapso that you can land in the appropriate area. Enter the cave, anduse your Cutter to carve out the massive piece of titanium you’re directed toward.
Bring this titanium, labeled ‘Heart of Mars’, back to Laylah. She’ll reveal it’s all an old joke, so the fact that you found something reminiscent of the tale is a surprise in its own right. As for what to do with the thing,the max you can possibly get for the Heart of Mars is around 5,000 credits, so in our opinion? Justdisplay it in your house somewhere instead.
