Super Mario Bros. Wonderis the first new 2D Mario title in 11 years. That alone is reason to celebrate, but the game’s also one of the best Nintendo’s ever made. In almost every sense, Wonder is polished to a mirror sheen. It’s creative, it’s robust, it’s got plenty of stages, a great new badge system, and more.
But what about after you’ve beaten Bowser and restored peace to theMushroomFlower Kingdom? What’s on tap for folks who love to 100 percent their games? Let’s dive in.
Collect Every Standee
We’ll get this one out of the way first, since it’s arguably the most obvious. 100 percenting Super Mario Bros. Wonder meanspurchasing every Standee from Poplin Shops. While this isn’t strictly a postgame thing, per se, the odds are good that you won’t have gotten through it all before facing off against Big B at the final stage.
The thing about Standees is thatyou’ll never know what you’ll get when you buy one - only that you won’t get a duplicate of what you already have. So, by process of elimination, you’ll narrow it all down to the last of your collection in time. It’ll just cost a ton of Flower Coins!
Finish Special World And Unlock The Strange Surprise
Here’s what it all boils down to: theSpecial World. Though you may have already been here, completing several stages before fighting Bowser,the last few are unlocked via gathering every prior Wonder Seed in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
There’s good news and bad news. We’re firm believers in the less common approach of ‘bad news first’, so we’ll tell you there isn’t a ton of postgame content to play. A common refrain among players has been that Wonder earns its title with aplomb,exceptthat a little more content could have gone a long way.
The good news is, these three stages are fantastic. Two of them are nice and long, all three will test your mettle, andthe final stage, ‘The Final-Final Test’, is one of the hardest 2D stages Nintendo has thrown at fans in decades, hands down.
Theothergood news is that your excellence will not go unrewarded. In addition to that good old-fashioned feeling of satisfaction, you’ll get theSound-Off Badge, which, when equipped… well, uh. You’ll see. Let’s just say it changes the game’s sound effects. It’s a cute little thing. Maybe not worth an entire replay, but well worth a few stages of goofing around with friends.
