Summary
Monster Hunter Nowreturns several staple monsters from the series to hunt at your own pace, provided you’re safe walking and playing simultaneously. As with the rest of the series, you take down stronger and stronger monsters to equip yourself with better and better gear and repeat the cycle once again.
That being said, there are a lot of different pieces of armor to choose from, and it could be a little overwhelming to newer players of the series. Hopefully, these choice pieces below will at least give you an idea of what to hunt, or just to find your armor’s aesthetic.

8Kulu Headpiece
It is a starter piece in other Monster Hunter games, but you’ll want to check this headpiece out before disregarding it for a much stronger headpiece. Firstly, taking out a Lulu-Ya-Ku is easy stuff, being one of the smaller monster bosses you’ll need to hunt. In Monster Hunter Now, as long as you equip a weapon that has a water affinity, you’ll knock him out in under twenty seconds. Easy Peasy, right?
Once you knock it down a few times and get the materials, you’ll have a headpiece that will allow you to lock on to a specific part, allowing you to cause heavy damage to your targeted part and causing it to break. Then, you’ll be able to make other, higher-stat gear in the process. It’s essential to make your ideal armor set.

7Lumu Vanbraces
It’s easy to overlook this armor set over ‘better’ sets, like the Jyura set and especially the Anja and Rathian sets. But you’ll be underestimating the various skills the Lumu set can give. Some Lumu pieces, such as the Greaves, will give you a nice defense from wind attacks. Others, such as the Lumu mail, can lower the recoil significantly for those who prefer the Bowgun.
Once the deed is done, and you’ve gathered all the materials required to craft your new armor fit, the coil you left with gains the skill Divine Blessing, which has a chance of reducing a significant amount of damage. The more you over-level it, the higher your chance of reducing and increasing the amount. It’s going to come in handy in the endgame.

6Anja Mail
The Anja set is all about power. Some pieces, like the Helm and Vambraces, offer a boost to your fire attacks that you may build over time with leveling as well as over-leveling them. Then you’ve got the skill Peak Performance, which grants you a boost of pure attack power so long as your health is full. It’s conditional, but it’s nice if you can keep it up.
Still, if you’re the type who likes to play with your target until you may unleash hell in a single attack, then the best chest piece for you would be the Anja Mail. The piece has both a level one and level two special boost that can be stacked, making your ultimate move feel like somethingstraight out of your favorite Shonen show.

5Jyura Greaves
As the Anja set is to fire, the Jyura armor set is to water. Most of this set offers either a boost to your splashing around or some defense against the monsters doing the splashing at you. Of this set, however, sits one hidden gem, the Jyura greaves, that offers nothing in water but instead a last resort of sorts.
The greaves offer two skills instead of the usual single skill. First, you have focus, which shortens the charging time of charge attacks while simultaneously filling your Spirit Gauge faster. Last Stand will allow you to have a chance to survive by greatly increasing your defense when your health is low. It’s a skill that will come in handy once you start facing off against five-star monsters.

4Rathalos Mail
The Rathalos set is multifaceted as it is powerful. Looking for a damage boost? It’s got you. What about a little more power to your fire weapon? Sure, no problem. Even if you’re looking for a little more Focus, this group of gear has got you covered. Those are all well and good, but you’ve also got another skill lurking within the set.
It’s none other than Weakness Exploit. Now, it doesn’t sound as ‘useful’ as, say, Divine Blessing or Last Stand, but once it’s active, it makes any weakness your quarry has increased the damage to up to 50 percent. That’s doing tremendous damage and can be stacked with other attack-boosting skills that make you a one-hitter.

3Legiana Vambraces
Legiana and the gear made from it provide ice boosts in both offensive and defensive capabilities, which can come in handy when you’re fighting a Legiana, but honestly, outside of that, there aren’t many monsters with the same weakness, at least for now.But if you are a Bowgun user, the Legiana set has something extra for you.
The vambraces you may make with your trophies come complete with a skill, much like the other pieces of armor. The vambraces offer a stack of levels one and two of Reload Speed. The caveat here, though, is that it’s specifically made for the Bowgun only. While unfortunate for the other weapon types, for the Bowgun, it makes for a surprisingly powerful skill boost.

2Diablos Coil
Now you’re getting into the nitty-gritty of gear when talking about armor sets. Forget about all the elemental boosts and defenses here; the Diablos set starts getting into the experimental side of skills after you unlock at least 30 pieces of armor. you’re able to’t go wrong with any of the pieces here, but to make the most of your hunting and gathering, your best choice is the coil.
The Diablos coil once again comes with two skills: offensive guard, which increases your attack power after you perform a parry, and partbreaker, which raises the chances of you breaking off a part from the beast. Couple that with the lock-on mechanic, and your farming will be a lot easier.

1Diablos Nero Helm
So far, the best armor in the game is only available from a limited-time event inwhich you’ll have to fight tooth and nail(no pun intended) to get the materials you need to craft the piece you need. Choosing which piece of armor is tricky due to the event’s limited run, and with no inkling of when the event will return, you had to think about it.
So, out of all the pieces you can get with the materials of the Black Diablos, why would the helm be the best choice? Partbreaker is a fantastic addition to your roster and all, but you can get that from other pieces. Resentment is the star of the show here. As of now, you’ll already be receiving a lot more damage than in the beginning, and this will increase your strength by up to 30 percent while you’re taking damage. You may go down, but you’ll be going down swinging as hard as you can.
