The developers ofGenshin Impacthave a goal of releasing a new region every year. In August 2023, Fontaine was released to the game as its fifth region, and it came along with three new characters in the first update. Lyney was the only five-star character among these, and he exceeded all expectations.
RELATED:The Best DPS Characters In Genshin Impact, Ranked
Lyney is a Pyro Bow user who deals a ton of damage with his Charged Attacks, Skill, and Burst. In a world where reaction-based damage is usually the best choice, Lyney is one of the few characters performing well even in a mono-Pyro team.
Ultimate DPS Build
Lyney has a special passive that increases his DMG if anopponent is affected by Pyro and if there are Pyro members in his team. This gives him up to 100 percent extra damage, which is almost as good as using him in a Vaporize team where you’d get twice your normal damage every time the reaction triggers.
These weapons and artifacts bring the most out of his mono-Pyro DPS build. Marechaussee is an artifact set released alongside Fontaine in the Version 4.0 update, and itgives Lyney a 15 percent Normal and Charged Attack DMG with the two-piece bonus. Although, the four-piece bonus is what you’ll be after.

This bonus gives Lyney a12 percent Crit Rate boostevery time his health increases or decreases.
This boost lasts for five seconds and can get a maximum of three stacks.

When you use the second phase of Lyney’s Charged Attack,he loses some of his health as long as he’s above the 60 percent threshold. Moreover, his Skill heals him back up depending on the stacks you have. These stacks are shown beside the character and you can get them from the Ultimate and second Charged Attack.
If you use him with another healer like Bennett, you’ll beable to gain three stacks from this Artifact set quite easily, giving him a constant 36 percent Crit Rate boost. With the Crit Rate from his ascension, you can reduce the load on your artifact stats. This load can further be reduced by using the following weapons:

The First Great Magic
This is Lyney’s signature weapon, and it gives him a 16 percent Charged Attack DMG boost at Refinement One. You canalso get some ATK Percent and Movement SPDbased on the element of your party members.
Aqua Simulacra
The HP provided by this weapon might not be as useful for Lyney, but thehigh Crit DMG on the secondary stat makes it worth. It also gives Lyney a direct 20 percent DMG boost.
Blackcliff Warbow
This can be a four-star replacement if you don’t have the above weapons. It gives you anATK increase every time you defeat an opponent, so it can make Lyney good even against a horde of enemies.
All the weapons abovehave Crit DMG as their secondary stat, which gives Lyney a lot of Crit even without artifacts.

Reaction-Based DPS
If you’re planning to use Lyney as a reaction-based DPS, you have to make peace with the fact thathis Conclusive Ovation passive will mostly be useless. Although, you’ll get a similar DMG bonus by triggering the Vaporize or Melt reaction, and you can also get some extra damage if you’re using supports like Yelan or Xingqiu.
Wanderer’s Troupe is one of the artifact sets that have been in the game from the start, but itcan be quite hard to acquire since there isn’t a specific domain for it. You can either get it every time you defeat a World Boss or strongbox it using other useless five-star artifacts in your inventory.

The set increases your Elemental Mastery by 80 andCharged Attack DMG by 35 percent.
Elemental Mastery is an important stat for reaction buildssince it increases the damage of a certain reaction. Unfortunately, the best weapons for this build are either five-star or the four-star battle pass weapon added in Version 4.0. All these weapons can give you a Crit Rate boost to counter the lack of the Marechaussee set.
Although, you’re able to use other weapons good for increasing your reaction-based damage if you can manage the Crit Ratio just from your artifact stats.
Artifact Stat Priority For Lyney
You can put up to five artifacts onLyney, andeach one of them has one main stat and up to four sub-stats. Other than the set bonuses, this is where most of your character stats come from. The stats you’ll be looking for roughly stays the same on both builds, but you have to get some extra Elemental Mastery on the reaction-based build.
Crit DMG
Crit Rate > ATK Percent > Energy Recharge
you’re able to also look forsome extra Crit Ratefor Lyney if you’re using the reaction-based build.
The fact that you don’t need to look for as much Crit Rate on Lyneymakes him much easier to build than other DPS characters.
Lyney Talent Priority
Much like every other DPS character in the game, you’ll have to upgrade all three Talents for Lyney. His Normal Attack Talent increases the Charged Attack DMG while the other two directly increase his overall DMG output. You can start by focusing on the Normal Attack Talent first as that’s his main source of damage.
This can be followed up by the Skill so thatyou can increase the DMG output for every stack you have. These two talents are the most important to upgrade, and you can get the Burst whenever you have enough materials. The Burst also deals explosive DMG at the end.
Is It Worth Getting Lyney?
Before the release of Fontaine,Hoyoverse revealed all the characters you’ll find in this region. Lyney didn’t quite stand out among the others during this, but his release changed the community’s stance on the character drastically. You’ll realize his damage potential even while doing his trial.
Lyney makes one of the rare play styles viable, and he can also be surprisingly fun to use. Of course, you should always pull for characters you like at the end of the daysince there’s a high chance of them getting power crept in the future. Lyney is a great character at zero constellations, but getting his constellations can upgrade his DMG monumentally.
If you’re planning to go for these constellations, getting the fourth one might be a good place to stop as itgives him extra stacks, Crit DMG, and decreases the opponents' Pyro RES.
