There are several options for non-playable characters that can join your crew, ranging from engineers to scientists, combat experts, and some that can manage your outposts. 10Vasco
Vasco is one of the first characters you meet during the game’s opening sequences. After acquiring your ship, Vasco is a default member of your crew and joins you on your first few voyages and quests.
Vasco is a charming robot companion with valuable stats like Fusion (one point), Shield Systems (two points), and EM Weapons Systems (one point). Being the first crew member you encounter, Vasco’s skills are well-balanced and increase your ship’s capabilities.

9Barrett
You meet Barret at the same time as Vasco; he is another solid crew member when you get the chance to recruit him. Barret has excellent skills in Engineering (four points) and Particle Beam Weapons Systems (three points), making him a solid addition to your crew due to his offensive and defensive contributions.
Barret is a free crewmate you’re able to recruit after completing one of the earlier quests. His witty banter and remarks also make him an exciting character to converse with.

8Sam Coe
With Sam Coe on your crew providing four points in Piloting, your mobility and maneuverability will take a significant jump; he also offers two points in the Payload skill, allowing you to carry more loot and cargo.

His interesting backstory makes him an exciting character to have around, and he can be recruited at no cost after you complete one of the main quests.
7Gideon Aker
In the vast and hostile landscape that is deep in space, there are a lot of potential enemies that you could efficiently run into. Improving your ship’s firepower and battle capabilities are an absolute necessity, and that’s where Gideon Aker comes in.
If you’re willing to part with 13,000 credits at the New Atlantis Viewport Lounge, then you may recruit a crew member that significantly boosts your ship’s weapons. Gideon’s skills include two points to Weapon Systems and two points to Missile Weapons Systems, which will give you an edge against many enemy ships.

6Omari Hassan
In some space combat situations, you will learn you need as much defensive strength as you do offensive strength. A solid amount of shielding abilities and the ability to better repair your ship’s systems during combat situations.
If you’re ever in Akita City bar with 12,000creditsburning a hole in your pocket and a desire to reduce the risk of being blown out of space by enemy spaceships, then you should recruit Omari Hassan. He provides three points to Shield Systems and one point to Starship Engineering.

5Supervisor Lin
Supervisor Lin is the very first character you interact with in the game, and she introduces you to the world of Starfield with a few mining tutorials that kick off the main story.

Throughout the game, you must set up Outposts that serve as bases of operation for you and your crew on different planets. As a member of your crew, Lin adds her Outpost Management skill of three to maintain your outposts. Offensively, Lin is also a demolition expert, and having her on your crew improves your explosive blast radius by 25 percent.
4Andromeda Kepler
Andromeda Kepler offers excellent services both as a member of your ship’s crew and as part of your outpost crew. On the ship’s crew, she boosts the ship’s energy output with her 38 Aneutronic Fusion skill.
As a member of the outpost crew, Kepler offers two points in Outpost Engineering, with which she improves the research and construction of superior modules. She can be recruited for 15,000 credits at the Broken Spear Bar in Cydonia, on Mars.

3Heller
Heller is another one of those characters you meet during the game’s opening sequence, and he is a fantastic crew member to have stationed at your outposts. One major part of the Starfield game is being able to mine for rare materials on various planets, and with Heller on your team offering his Geology skill, you have a better chance of finding some great resources.

He also improves Outpost Engineering with his skill of three in that field, which enhances the research and construction of outpost modules in more significant amounts. It is also worth noting that Heller is free to recruit after a main quest mission and has a few witty lines that make him an interesting character to have around.
2Rafael Aguerro
Aguerro is another crew member useful for both outposts and ship crews. He offers Outpost Engineering and Management skills that are invaluable during the early stages of building your outposts, especially if he is partnered with the right team of Outpost crew members.
On your ship, Aguerro’s two points in Starship Engineering are also a welcome addition, as they increase the effectiveness of your ship’s damage mitigation by a whopping 25 percent, which is a game changer in combat situations.

1Sarah Morgan
Sarah is another one of those crew members that you get to recruit for free after the completion of a mission, and she is also only the second crew member and first human crew member you get to recruit throughout the game.
She offers many excellent skills to your ship, including a four in Astrodynamics, three in Lasers, two in Leadership, and one in Botany. This broad list of varying skills makes her one of the most well-rounded and best crew members to recruit onto your ship.
