Summary

Every new Season inDiablo 4brings new mechanics, Legendary Aspects, and of course, new gear. However, with every new season, you’ll need to level up a fresh character starting from one. While there are definitely better methods for leveling through the early game, Dungeons are a great way to get experience and loot at the same time.

Plus, you’ll eventually have to complete certain dungeons to unlock Legendary Aspects for your build. With so many dungeons to choose from, we’re here to providea little guidancefor what we think are the best dungeons to efficiently gain experience.

guulrahn canals dungeon entrance

Updated June 20, 2025 by Jacob Whaling: Season 4 has just begun, so we’ve taken this opportunity to update you on the best dungeons to farm for XP.

10Guulrahn Canals

Located in Jahka Basin within theDry Steppes, Guulrahn Canals isa perfect grinding dungeon if you’re looking for a quick run that can be repeated with speed. Just make sure that you don’t end up in Guulrahn Slums by accident! Your experience will be much different.

This dungeon is smaller in size, granting quick and easy access to enemies. The map layout tends to be more maze-like instead of linear, so there will be some backtracking. This can make it easy to miss some chests, but if you’re just running for XP, your first concern is eliminating all enemies for the objective. The more compact area is fantastic for this purpose.

blind burrows dungeon entrance

9Blind Burrows

Spiders, spiders everywhere! Blind Burrows is an expansive mid-sized dungeon that can be found in theHawezar region. Although a bit on the larger size, the spacious areas decrease the odds of being swarmed by mobs and a straight shot through (assuming you take the right path). This means you may also complete this dungeon quickly and repeat for rapid XP gain.

Unlike Guulrahn Canals, there is a boss fight at the end of the dungeon. If you are looking for the most effective use of time to quickly level, skip the boss and just repeat the run. If you get the right path on the first try, this is another dungeon that can be completed in minutes.

maulwood dungeon entrance

8Maulwood

The capital of crowd control, Maulwood is a dungeon that contains many massive mobs throughout, makingcharacter buildsequipped for area-of-effect attacking very valuable. As it’s located inDobrev Taiga in Fractured Peaks, you can expect to encounter lots of Wood Wraiths. These enemies can be fickle fiends that are not only strong but can also slow down your speed runs.

While there is no boss and plenty of mobs, this dungeon can prove difficult if you’re not paying attention. There is the additional element of traps to contend with when fending off multiple monsters at once, which can be a lot to handle if your character is not prepared. However, the XP from these large crowds of foes can be beneficial for the right build.

7Champion’s Demise

Champion’s Demise is another dungeon located in the Dry Steppes. Unlike its neighbor Guulrahn Canals, you can expect a large layout inside. The benefit of this is more space equals more enemies. The downside is that they tend to stun your character. This can prove to be irritating, especially when your goal is to farm as much XP as quickly as possible.

If you’re prepared to be stunned by both the large mobs and the boss and travel the long path through, you can gain a ton of XP.

Diablo 4 character standing next to the corpse of a spider enemy in Sarats Lair dungeon

6Sarats Lair

Diablo 4 does love its spider dungeons! Like Blind Burrows, expect this location withinScosglento be full of these eight-legged enemies. What makes Sarats Lair great for XP farming is its small size. The tricky aspect is the narrow passages throughout the maze-like layout.

The main thing to be aware of when doing your runs is to not get trapped by large groups in the lean corridors. As long as you move forward and eliminate every monster in your path along the way, you should be able to repeat this dungeon quickly without getting stalled by swarms.

Diablo 4 necromancer and 11 minions standing at entrance to Sunken Ruins dungeon

5Sunken Ruins

Also found in Scosglen, Sunken Ruins is one of the larger dungeons on this list. While this means lots of exploring to get to all the monsters for XP, it also has the benefit of not being trapped and mobbed in small, tight spaces.

This dungeon does not have a boss but an elite instead. Unlike other dungeons where it’s sometimes best to leave the boss alone in the name of speed, this is an easier kill with XP benefit. And, of course, the loot.

Diablo 4 character fighting an Animus in Dead Man’s Dredge dungeon

Gale Valley in Fractured Peaks is home to the Dead Man’s Dredge. Like Sunken Ruins, there is no boss fight at the end. But the amount of enemies in crowds throughout the entire dungeon more than compensates. There is also a great variety of types of foes for plenty of variety.

The layout is pretty easy to follow without getting lost or stuck in too many dead ends, making it fantastic for quick runs with lots of XP farming. You also have a higher opportunity for better drops thanks to the Animus Carriers.

domhainne tunnels dungeon entrance

3Domhainne Tunnels

The Domhainne Tunnels is a dungeon found in theStrand region of Scosglen. This is one of the most popular pre-Nightmare Dungeon spots for farming XP due to its monster density and quick clear time.

This dungeon is mostly populated by Goatmen, so if you want to maximize your clear times, you can bring along some Elixers of Demon-Slaying. You’ll also want to havedecent mobilityand area-clearing skills for fast farming.

uldur’s cave dungeon entrance

2Uldur’s Cave

Uldur’s Cave may not have the highest monster density, but its very short run times more than make up for it. Despite its medium size, Uldur’s Cave is very quick to get through, mainly thanks to its linear path, which means relatively low amounts of backtracking. Just watch out for the high number of enemies that can stun you, which can slow down speed runs.

The objectives of this dungeon are also very simple, making it easy for repeat clears. There are quite a few Elite enemies packed into the first half, which definitely contributes to this dungeon’s decent experience per hour.

mariner’s refuge dungeon entrance

1Mariner’s Refuge

Mariner’s Refuge is a large dungeon found in the northeast region of Scosglen. This dungeon has tight corridors with decent monster density; paired with its straightforward objectives, this dungeon becomes a great place to farm experience.

Despite its size, you won’t have to backtrack too much to complete all the objectives in this dungeon, and you’ll be killing enemies every step of the way. While it may not be the absolute best place to farm experience in the game, it does make for a decent alternative spot when you get tired of higher-earners like the Domhainne Tunnels.
