Of the many individuals inhabiting Neopia and the surrounding celestial bodies, the faeries are who everyone turns to in an emergency. Within Neopets there are thousands of faeries, each with magical powers, and some which are unique with their own backstories and responsibilities.

Out of those, there are a few that really stand out, whether due to their compassion, influence, or awesome quest rewards. New ones are rarely added, and often come with complex plots and new NPCs to meet. So let’s pay homage to the best magical folk around.

10Jhuidah

Jhuidah (pronounced jwee-duh) is one of five guardians of Mystery Island, as well as running a fair number of the attractions. Her faerie typing is just ‘Island’, making her a unique character. Introduced in 2000, Jhuidah has since taken up the Cooking Pot, where you can create delicious offerings to Pango Pango, the Mystery Island god.

She seems to know all the recipes, but they’re for you to figure out. The ‘rewards’ for the Cooking Pot ‘quests’ are very mixed, with most being gross food items, but it is possible tocreate entirely new Petpets.

9Jhudora

The most powerful dark faerie, and yet seemingly the most innocent, is Jhudora. She’s technically not under lock and key, though she lives on the edge of Faerieland, and isn’t invited to any parties. Despite no one having any proof Jhudora is super-duper wicked, every Neopian will blame her for a stumped toe or missing left glove when it comes down to it.

She and Illusen have a centuries long feud going on, all because Illusen the earth faerie swears she saw Jhudora do something really evil, but can’t prove it. In fact, if one of them finds out you did a quest for the other, they’ll deny you their own for 12 hours. The rewards for her quests are pretty rubbish, until you get to level 50 and receive the legendary Wand of the Dark Faerie.

8Illusen

Illusen the earth faerie resides in Meridell in her own glade. She’s a little standoffish at first, but get to know her and you’ll see she’s incredibly loyal and very committed to doing good. Her baked treats are worth a visit at least.

Her character design is one of the best, and she puts you in mind of the druids from Dungeons and Dragons. Throughout Neopet history she has rewarded those who have been kind to others, and she even has a random eventwhere she gifts you 10,000NP. Her quest rewards are even worse than Jhudora’s, though the avatars you can collect are cute.

7Kaia

Kaia lives in Shenkuu, and was finally recognized among faerie-kind at the Academy when Fyora offered her extra tutelage. She’s also the only faerie known to have the Sight, at one point revealing that the library in Faerieland was about to set ablaze.

Kaia offers random quests too, often catching Neopians out when she asks for the Neocash item currently sitting in their inventory. She does give one back in return though, from a pool of limited-edition wearable pieces.

6Ilere

Despite her appearance, Ilere is actually an earth faerie living in the Haunted Woods. Little is known about her, but what stands out is her role in the Tale of Woe. She found little Sophie the Ixi alone in the woods after she’d run away from Neovia and the curse that afflicted it. Ilere set her up with a shack and taught her everything she would need to know to become the legendary witch.

Later on, Sophie’s brother Bruno, who had been mutated by a potion gone wrong, fled to the Haunted Woods too, and Sophie was able to save him and the rest of Neovia with Ilere’s help. Though she doesn’t give out quests, she helps those in need without getting mixed up in the politics of Faerieland.

5Grey Faerie (Baelia)

Technically, she’s no longer called Baelia, but that was her name once upon a time, back when she was a light faerie. This was all before an evil dark faerie named Jennumara cut off her wings, and sealed her in a cage, dangling on a mountain and left to die. To receive new wings, she needed a new name, and so she gave hers up.

However, the new name has yet to be given, and so she stumbles around on her feet, powerless and left out. When Queen Fyora was captured by the Darkest Faerie, Baelia took up position in the Hidden Tower to sell the treasured artifacts. Though she’s without powers, she still gives quests, and will set you up with another random faerie when it’s time for a reward.

4Naia

Naia is a water faerie, and so doesn’t have any wings, which doesn’t seem to bother her as she mostly lives in the Rainbow Pool. Here, she grants Neopets their wildest dreams, though she doesn’t do it for free, and there are eight colors she simply won’t do. Though it used to be possible to change your Neopet’s species here, back in 2001.

A Water Fountain quest will ask for an item of rarity 94-96, which doesn’t sound terribly broad. However, the price of items in this bracket range from 1,200NP to 999,999NP for an Acara Ice Cream Surprise. So be mindful of the price of a Paint Brush in the color you would choose. Naia is one of the faeries that will provide a reward on behalf of the Grey Faerie, so don’t turn her away.

3Mira

Mira the space faerie is quite literally the savior of the world. Back in 2001, during her regular orbits of Neopia, she sensed a great evil approaching. What she’d foreseen was the coming of Dr Sloth and the Virtupets Plot. This is also when Grundos were introduced, as they were freed from Dr Sloth’s reign. Mira was later involved in Dr Sloth’s return, with her Token being used to trap him.

Aside from the release of a species and saving Neopia, twice, Mira also gives out some pretty great quests. Though the items tend to be expensive, they’re well worth it, as she rewards your active Neopet with five levels.

2Soup Faerie

What’s better than the faerie version of Rayquaza? The faerie that runs the Soup Kitchen, of course. She’s never been officially named, but in the Gallery of Heroes, she is noted as being the kindest and most compassionate of the faeries. She spends her time standing over her magic Soup Cauldron, feeding anyone with less than 3000NP to their name.

Soup Faerie is also the name of a member of The Neopets Team, though it’s not clear who came first. She even gives out quests with awesome rewards, like combinations of stat boosts to your active Neopet.

1Fyora

Thequeen of all faeries, Fyora really is an icon. She’s the most powerful of them, and has been part of many plots to save Neopia and Faerieland, like when it fell out of the sky. For thousands of years, she kept the Darkest Faerie locked away in a statue. Currently, she sits inside her Hidden Tower and sells incredibly rare items, and sometimes she has a discount.

Honestly, considering she’s the queen of faeries, her quest rewards are a little lacking. The items she asks for aren’t anything ridiculous, and she rewards two levels, five hitpoints, and five strength points to your active pet. Still, her color scheme is on point.
