Thanks to a new twistMagic: The Gathering’sCommander Masters draft format, you can take two monocolored commanders, or even a legendary creature with no color, and use them together as if they both had the partner ability.

This rule dramatically changes how you craft your decks during a draft, and opens up all sorts of exciting variations in deck construction. While it may be difficult to force some of these pairings in a draft, there are certainly some high-powered legendary creatures in Commander Masters, and if you can manage to get these commanders together in one deck, you’ll be one step closer to winning your draft.
10Azami, Lady Of Scrolls + Talrand, Sky Summoner
The monoblue union of Azami, Lady of Scrolls and Talrand, Sky Summon means you’re going to be drawing tons of cards and casting tons of Wizards. You might run the risk of burning through much of your deck but, hopefully, the card advantage and army of Drakes will help you win the game.
These two work so well since Azami lets you tap a Wizard creature to draw a card, letting you tap both her and Talrand since they’re both Wizards. Then, with a healthy amount of instants and sorceries, and the ability to constantly draw them, you’ll have plenty of 2/2 Drakes with flying to swarm over your opponents.

9Godo, Bandit Warlord + Kemba, Kha Regent
Everybody loves a good equipment deck, and with these two in your Command Zone you’ll have access to any equipment in your deck and have an army to attach them to in no time. Godo is going to be key at the start, letting you tutor up any equipment when it comes into play. While there isn’t a way to combo off with him in Commander Masters, there are still 20 equipment cards in the set to draft.
Once you have an equipment or two ready to go, load up Kemba, Kha Regent with a few and start creating tokens at the start of your turn. Godo also gives you an extra combat step the first time it attacks each turn, giving your army two chances to swing in for the win.

8Goreclaw, Terror Of Qal Sisma + Ghalta, Primal Hunger
Sometimes all it takes to win a game of Magic isplaying the biggest creature you haveand smashing in over and over again until someone loses. With Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma and Ghalta, Primal Hunger leading your deck, you’re bound to be taking someone out of the game with just a few attacks.
Goreclaw makes your creatures with power four or more cost two mana less, and then gives those creatures +1/+1 and trample when it attacks. Goreclaw helps to reduce Ghalta’s cost by six mana, four thanks to its power and two thanks to its ability, cutting the twelve-drop’s mana value in half.

7Anax, Hardened In The Forge + Neheb, The Eternal
Some people just want to watch the world burn, and with these two red commanders, you’re able to do just that. Anax, Hardened in the Forge comes down quickly and puts the pressure on your opponents, keeping your board filled with Satyr tokens when any of your creatures die.

Neheb, the Eternal comes down a few turns later and generates a ton mana as your opponents lose more and more life from your attacks. With all that mana you may start powering out your big red bombs like Drakuseth, Maw of Flames or an Avatar of Slaughter, or even an Eldrazi if you’re lucky enough to draft one.
6Rishkar, Peema Renegade + Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger
Another mono-green deck with a massive powerhouse as your top end, the pairing of Rishkar, Peema Renegade andUlamog, the Ceaseless Hunger gives you the powerto take down your biggest problems right out of the Command Zone.
The two together are very straightforward, just ramp until you hit ten mana and cast Ulamog. The Eldrazi’s cast trigger lets you exile the two biggest problems on the battlefield, and then can only really be stopped if an opponent can exile it, since it is indestructible, giving you a permanent threat on the board.

5Krenko, Mob Boss + Sun Quan, Lord Of Wu
Truthfully, pretty much any aggro deck with Sun Quan, Lord of Wu in the Command Zone can be a deadly combination, but there likely isn’t a better choice than Krenko, Mob Boss. In an all-in Goblins deck, Krenko can use his tap ability to create dozens of tokens in only a few turns.
Once you drop Sun Quan, all your creatures gain horsemanship, and this weird ability only lets other creatures with horsemanship block your creatures. It is incredibly unlikely that anyone else will have drafted Sun Quan, so you’ll be able to safely swing in with no trouble.

4Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder + Erebos, Bleak-Hearted
A mono-black pairing this time, with Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder producing an army of tokens to sacrifice up to Erebos, Bleak-Hearted. These two legendary creatures pair well together by giving you a steady supply of tokens to sacrifice to Erebos’ ability to give another creature -2/-1.

Endrek creates 1/1 Thrull tokens equal to the mana value of every creature spell you cast. So long as you keep the number of Thrulls in play below seven, you won’t have to sacrifice Endrek. Erebos keeps those Thrulls in check while picking off any problematic creatures your opponents control, drawing you cards all the while.
3Selvala, Heart Of The Wilds + Avacyn, Angel Of Hope
Green and white is a common color combination, bringing together the versatility of white cards with the power of green, and with Selvala, Heart of the Wilds and Avacyn, Angel of Hope as your commanders, you’ll be able to lock down the board against any threat.
Selvala is doing much of the work with these two, helping to ramp you up in mana and draw cards as you play bigger and bigger creatures. Once you hit eight mana, you’re able to drop Avacyn, giving everything you control indestructible and preventing your opponents from doing much of anything against you.

2Mikaeus, The Unhallowed + Gonti, Lord Of Luxury
Gonti, Lord of Luxury is a powerful creature, letting you steal a card from one of your opponents and casting it later in the game with no worries about the mana cost. The problem with Gonti, is that this ability only triggers when it comes into play. Mikaeus, the Unhallowed helps get around this slight limitation.
Mikaeus brings back a non-Human creature to the battlefield when it dies, giving it a +1/+1 counter and letting Gonti’s enter the battlefield trigger happen again. While there’s no proper wayto turn this into a combo in mono-blackin Commander Masters, it does provide a powerful card advantage engine as the game draws on.

1Urza, Lord High Artificer + Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter
Blue and green decks always seem to end up particularly powerful, and combining Urza, Lord High Artificer and Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter provides a great engine to get free spells. Oviya can be tapped to create a colorless Servo artifact creature for just one mana while Urza can tap an untapped artifact to add one blue mana to your mana pool.
After a few turns of producing artifacts, you can turn that mana into free spells with Urza’s ability, shuffling your deck and exiling the top card. You can play that spell for free that turn, meaning you’ll want a healthy balance of powerful spells, artifacts, and plenty of mana to spare.
