Super Mario Wonderhas made some massive changes to the 2DMarioplatformer formula, and a lot of these have ended up with the game having a very fresh feelcompared to previous entries. The new setting of the Flower Kingdom has brought with it a whole new cast of enemies to act as obstacles for Mario and all the other playable characters.
While there are some returning enemies, a lot are new, and a lot of the levels are built around highlighting the unique aspects of their designs. There are too many to rank them all, but which of the new enemies is the best?

12Skedaddler
One of the main reasons why defeating enemies in Mario games can often be so easy is how slow and telegraphed their patterns of movement are, but the Skedaddlers perfectly counter this by wanting to get as far away from you as possible.
They will run away from wherever you are, firing back projectiles, and, since they often carry items you are after, reaching them is a challenge you will want to rise to.

11Outmaway
The Outmaways don’t show up too often, but when they do, they change how you will have to approach the level. These small enemies will kick whatever comes their way, whether it is a sliding block that could easily crush you, or sending your own shell back your way.
This makes the only simple way of taking them down either stomping, or a more direct attack. The game even tempts you by putting Koopa shells all about so you’re able to see their counter in action.

10Blewbird
Like a lot of enemies in Super Mario, the Blewbird’s attacks might be dangerous, but you can use these attacks or unique features to your advantage. They shoot out their beaks which can damage you, but when they land, they create a temporary platform you can use.
They don’t last for long, and you will have to balance getting on them in time with dodging the initial attack, making any time these birds show up a unique challenge.

9Rolla Koopa
While Koopas are not a new enemy by any means, but the Rolla Koopa is a new form that has been introduced in Super Mario Wonder. Compared to a standard Koopa, these enemies are a lot quicker and will move and glide along the slopes that their levels are built around.
While their pattern of attack is nothing too unique, their design is incredibly charming, and any level that features them is automatically more adorable.

8Hoppycat
The Hoppycats have a simple gimmick; whenever you jump, they will jump, and since jumping is your main method of dodging, this can get confusing.
It gets even harder when you are surrounded by these creatures and unsure which way to go without getting hit, making their levels an engaging challenge. You will even get transformed into a giant Hoppycat in one level using their destructive power to forge a path ahead.

7Shovas
Moving around certain objects like blocks or pipes is often the simple but hidden solution to a hidden area in Wonder, and the best enemy to exemplify this is the Shovas.
These enemies will push around any object they can find, and if there is nothing to push, they will just push you instead. They are a challenging obstacle that takes a few hits to take down, and pushing against them is nearly always going to be a losing battle.

6Maw-Maws
Maw-Maws unfortunately do not show up that often throughout Wonder, but the levels they feature in are incredibly entertaining. These creatures will eat whatever will fit in their stretchy mouths if they get the chance.
The main target of this is Goombas, but avoiding them shouldn’t be too much of a challenge under normal circumstances. However, when you are turned into a Goomba, avoiding them becomes a stealth missionthat is deceptively difficult.

5Tailies
Sometimes the simpler the enemy, the better their design can be, and the simple satisfaction you get from taking down Tailies is a great example of this. Pulling and swinging shows up pretty often in Wonder, and your ability to do this in time will be tested when facing off against Tailies.
You can only take them down outside of Drill Form by swinging on their tails, but when they occasionally drop spiked balls, you’ll be vulnerable, so make sure to time it perfectly.

4Missile Megs
While the Missile Megs only show up a couple of times in the late game, they are the source of some of the best spectacle in the game. Their main levels see you riding on them while avoiding jumping too much so you can maintain a certain trajectory, which is an entertaining enough challenge already.
But, once you have kicked off the Wonder transformation, their patterns become more fantastical as they send out beautiful clouds of smoke behind them.

3Mumsies
Just like the Tailies, the Mumsies will test your pulling ability as the only easy way to take them down is by unravelling their binding from behind them.
With how tall they are, this is often a challenge, especially if you do not have enough room to pull all the way. However, the animation of them unravelling will make the effort worth it because of how cute it is.
