Among the many characteristics in the game, few may be as iconic as Pirates. These buccaneers of the high seas navigate the battlefield to help take down your foes. There are seven cards in the First Chapter of Lorcana with the pirate characteristic, so let’s take a look at how they compare.

7Mr. Smee, Loyal First Mate

Poor Mr. Smee, the perpetual punching bag of his villainous Captain Hook. Even in Lorcana he’s not very good, unfortunately. A three-ink 2/5 that can quest for one lore, Mr. Smee doesn’t even have any abilities on him.

Mr. Smee has a higher willpower on him, a solid five, does make him fairly resilient which is nice. Being able to use him in your inkwell is nice too, making him a fine card to fill out the extra slots of your deck in a pinch.

6Starkey, Hook’s Henchman

A beefy challenger, Starkey Hook’s Henchman does everything you want a henchmen to do, rough up your enemies while also being efficient at their work. As a five-ink 5/4, Starkey does a great job at challenging your opponent’s characters, taking down plenty of characters or at least taking a huge chunk of their Willpower out.

5Captain Hook, Forceful Duelist

The first Captain Hook on this list is a common one, but still a solid addition to any Pirate deck. For just one ink you can play Hook, a 1/2 character is relatively weak, but he comes with a powerful ability.

When this Captain Hook challenges a character, it gains +2 Strength, effectively making it a 3/2. Early in the game, when your opponent might only have a few weak characters, Hook can pick them off one or more of them before your opponent can get going.
