Originally launched in 2011 and discontinued only a mere eight years later in 2019, the PS Vita provided a unique set of games during its short-lived lifespan. Of those games we saw several 2D side scrollers, but the major AAA games and game producers did not keep up with the console.

But, that’s not to say we didn’t see some gems among the games we did get to play while the PS Vita lived on the shelves. The collection of action titles for the PS Vita is small but mighty and these are the best of the bunch.
8Shovel Knight
No action game list for the PS vita would be complete withoutShovel Knight! Designed in the classic gameplay style, Shovel Knight is an adventure platformer that features a small stature knight who is equipped with the shovel blade.
This is a weapon that comes with a variety of different tools and uses that the knight uses to vanquish the evil enchantress and reclaim his true love. It is a beautifully designed game full of humor and challenges, and it has a charming story too. Whether you like to hack and slash, or dig to your heart’s content, Shovel Knight is the perfect game for a genuine action-packed experience.
7Limbo
If you’re a fan of the dark and the mysterious,Limbois the perfect choice. It’s not the typical action game because it is based on puzzles, but this two-dimensional platformer is presented in the style of Noir.
Dark, grayscale graphics give the game a sense of danger always looming in the shadows. You must navigate these perils in the dark as you search for the truth of what happened to the character’s sister. Critics describe this game as one of the top games on the PS Vita, while also being incredibly frustrating and entertaining.
6Rayman Origins
Rayman Originsis a classic series that returned to the roots of the game. It recaptures the magic that will make fans feel nostalgic, but also presents a new magical adventure for newcomers to the series.
Rayman is classic platformer action, but the standout aspect of the series has always been humor in the style of silliness, and Rayman Origins does not stray from this formula as our titular hero pairs up with some of the funniest teammates a gamer could ask for.
5Mortal Kombat PS Vita
Although not the strongest installment in the classicMortal Kombatseries, Mortal Kombat PS Vita is still Mortal Kombat. It has been the defining game for the action genre for a long time.
A return to the original tournament with all new graphics, finishers, and new story there is plenty to love for fans of the classic series. The PS Vita installment of the game attempted to bring a fresh take, and for the most part, succeeded with one of the higher-rated PS Vita Games.
4LittleBigPlanet
Understandably,LittleBigPlanetis not a usual game to be on this action list. Little Big Planet is more about creativity than it is perfect platforming. For example, the player takes control of Sackboy, who has to take on puppets.

We then learn that these puppets were created as castoffs by a puppeteer who was spurned by a crowd. A fun feature of LittleBigPlanet on the PS Vita is the addition of touchscreen controls that gave some fun attributes to Sackboy’s movement abilities.
3Guacamelee!
Who doesn’t love a luchador story? Guacamelee is the game to for wrestling lovers. Down on his luck, Mexican Luchador makes it his mission to save the daughter of El Presidente.

You explore a nonlinear storyline and battle enemies to earn upgrades that you can buy at shops, and there are surprisingly many main story questions that you’ll want answered. And did we mention he’s technically a dead luchador traveling through alternate dimensions? It gets wild!
2Spelunky
Spelunkyis probably the most unique game on this action list due to the fact that it’s a randomly generated level every time. The game presents brand-new scenarios with all sorts of strategies to tackle different challenges each time.
Spelunky features completely destructible environments, treasures, traps, and monsters. Journeying deep underground hasn’t been as fun since Spelunky, except maybe in Minecraft. The more experienced you get, the more secrets you will uncover!
1Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
What’s better than getting to be an alien? A mutant alien! What’s better than getting to be a mutant alien? A MUTANT BLOB ALIEN! In Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, you get to control a blob and eat objects and enemies in order to continuously grow.
Becoming the largest you can be is the overall goal of the game, as you must gain size to be able to surpass obstacles. This award-winning sequel game to Tales From Space: About A Blob is a 2D funzone for PS Vita gamers.
