ThePlayStation Vitawas Sony’s attempt at a new and improved PSP, incorporating a touchscreen and a second joystick, among other features. At the time of its release, the Vita directly competed with Nintendo’s 3DS, but focused on more console-like experiences with high-budget games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Wipeout 2048.
While the Vita many have under-performed in Sony’s eyes, the console was supported for years with some outstanding games, primarily in the JRGP, Visual Novel, and indie game genres. There are dozens of amazing games worth playing on the Vita, and here we’ll detail some of the best of all time.

Uncharted: Golden Abyssis a spin-off prequel to the core Uncharted series, and was a Vita launch title. Taking place before the events of the first game, you’ll search for the lost city of Quivira as Nathan Drake, engaging in third-person shooting and puzzle segments.
Despite not being developed by Naughty Dog, the studio oversaw the development of the game, ensuring Golden Abyss has the distinct Uncharted feel and combat. As its name suggests, Odin Sphere takes heavy inspiration from Norse mythology and various fairy tales. Freedom Wars is a Vita-exclusive scifi action RPG set in the distant future, where humanity has been imprisoned in giant city-states known as Panopticons. Every citizen is given a prison sentence; when you begin the game, your sentence will be set to one million years for the crime of being living.
By fighting giant mechanized monsters called Abductors, you can decrease your sentence and work towards your freedom. You’ll fight these Abductors using a Thorn, which can be used to leap around the battlefield and knock the monsters down. Freedom Wars has in-depth action combat that controls surprisingly well and even supports local and online multiplayer.

Tearaway is a platforming puzzle game developed exclusively for the Vita. Using almost all of the Vita’s features, like the touchscreen and camera, Tearaway will have you solving puzzles in a colorful papercraft world.
Tearaway is one of the most unique games on the Vita. Persona 4 Goldenis an enhanced version of the original PS2 game, featuring tons of extra content and a new ending. In Persona 4, you will take on the role of the leader of an investigation team in Inaba, a small rural town in Japan, as you investigate a series of murders. Soul Sacrifice Delta is a mission-based action RPG set in a grim dark fantasy world. You will play as a sorcerer imprisoned by a powerful mage called Magusar. By reliving the battles of another sorcerer through a talking book, you’ll gain the power and abilities necessary to fight back against Magusar.
Battles are centered around the saving and sacrificing mechanic, where you can either save or sacrifice fallen enemies or allies to perform different abilities. Before each battle, you can change your equipment, using offerings gained in battle to craft new weapons and armor.

Severed is an extremely unique dungeon-crawling RPG where you play as Sasha, a one-armed warrior who uses a living sword to search for her missing family. The game is almost entirely controlled using the touch screen, so you’ll have to swipe your finger across the screen to slash at enemies and direct Sasha through a mysterious world.
There’s really nothing else like it on the Vita, and the reliance on touchscreen controls means Severed only works on platforms like the Vita. The skill-based combat is a ton of fun to learn, and there are plenty of secrets to uncover as you explore.

While Steins;Gate is most well known for its extremely popular anime adaptation, it was originally a visual novel released in 2009. The story revolves around Okabe Rintaro and the members of the Future Gadget Laboratory, who accidentally discover time travel.
If you’ve seen the anime, the overall story is largely the same, but the visual novel greatly expands on interactions between the characters due to its longer runtime. Using the phone trigger system, you can alter the outcome of the story depending on how and who you respond to. There are multiple different endings to achieve using this mechanic, which makes replaying the game even better.
