Doctor Who is one of the Universes Beyond sets fromMagic: The Gathering. These sets feature properties outside of the world of Magic. Universes Beyond takes many forms, with the Doctor Who crossover being four reconstructed Commander decks.

These decks feature primarily new cards, however, a few existing cards made the cut as well. These reprints were given Doctor Who treatments and feature moments and characters from the show. Some of these reprints hadn’t seen printings since their original set, and in some cases, multiple years have passed since the last time these cards appeared. As such, the Doctor Who Commander decks have some solid reprints in them.

9Clockspinning

Although the card was not too expensive, Clockspinning’s only printing prior to the Doctor Who decks was in Time Spiral all the way back in 2006. The effect is rather simple, it can either put a counter or remove one from a card that is suspended.

There are many suspend cards in the Doctor Who decks, making Clockspinning a perfect fit. Had the card not been reprinted, the price would likely have spiked due to how synergetic it is with the decks. Thanks to the reprint, not only is Clockspinning accessible, but it’s also a great addition to the Doctor Who theme.

8As Foretold

As Foretold is a card that if it lacks reprints, it can rise up in price. Theenchantment helps to quickly cast spells for free, which is especially nice in the Doctor Who decks as it helps to pay the high-mana value cards they include.

Though Wilds Of Eldraine had brought the price of As Foretold down, another printing in the Doctor Who decks ensures the care remains affordable to those who want it. Not only that, it’s a rather solid card overall, especially in formats like Commander where games tend to last longer to get a ton of counters onto it.

MTG Reliquary Tower card and art background

7Reliquary Tower

Having a lot of cards in your hand is almost always going to be a good thing. As such, Reliquary Tower is a great card as it is a land that provides you mana and gives you no maximum hand size. Despite its frequent printings, the strength of Reliquary Tower keeps the price above $2.

The more printings of Reliquary Tower the better, and the power of the card is very welcome in the decklists. Utility lands are fantastic, especially ones that can still produce mana so even if their effect isn’t actively helping you, you’re able to still produce mana to play your spells.

MTG Ponder card and art background

6Ponder

Despite its simplicity, Ponder is an amazing card, so much so that it is banned in Modern and restricted in Vintage. Despite being a common, the price of the card is over $2, with its reprints generally only in Commander decks and Secret Lairs.

Cantrips are great as they refresh your hand for just one mana, and Ponder is strong as it lets you control the top of your deck to ensure you do not draw any dead cards. This Ponder reprint is very welcomed as another way to gain an accessible reprint for the card, as the only other recent printing was in the New Capenna Commander decks in early 2022.

5Talisman Cycle

The Talisman Cycle is a series of two mana artifacts that can tap for either a colorless mana or one of two mana options at the cost of one life. The prices for them fluctuate depending on their reprint frequency and the colors they produce.

Talisman of Indulgence is the most notable reprint being the most expensive of the lot, but even one like Talisman of Curiosity hadn’t seen a proper reprint since its release in the first Modern Horizons set until the Doctor Who decks. The Talisman cycleare some of the strongest mana rocksin all of Magic and Commander staples in almost every deck.

MTG Lightning Greaves card and art background

4Lightning Greaves

Lightning Greaves is one of themost iconic pieces of Equipment for Commander. It gives any creature haste and shroud for no cost to actually equip it to a creature. If you have important cards such as your commander itself, it gives it protection from most forms of removal short of a board wipe or forced sacrifice.

Due to how strong it is, Lightning Greaves always has an above-average price tag, generally somewhere above the $5 mark. Lightning Greaves fit into almost every deck and the Doctor Who decks are no exception.

3Slowland Cycle

The Slowlands are a series of lands from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt and Innistrad: Crimson Vow that come into the battlefield tap unless you control two or other lands and can tap for two different colors of mana.

These are more often than not going to be untapped dual lands, which is what makes them so valuable. The Slowlands see play in nearly all the formats they are legal in and are strong in all of them, making them a very solid reprint for Magic players to get their hands on thanks to the Doctor Who decks.

MTG Snuff Out card and art background

2Snuff Out

Snuff Out isan amazing removal spellas you can cast it essentially for free for just four mana. It’s one of the few expensive Pauper staples and sees Legacy play as well. The last time Snuff Out saw a printing prior to Doctor Who was all the way back in 2014 in the Garruk vs. Liliana Duel Deck.

Snuff Out has always been around $10, if not more. The card was always on the more pricey side, so its reprint in the Doctor Who Commander decks is very welcome considering how long it has been since the last reprint of a cross-format staple.

MTG Farewell card and art background

1Farewell

One of the best board wipes ever released, Farewell is incredibly strong and the most expensive card getting a reprint in the Doctor Who decks. Its value comes from its utility, you can choose to exile all the creatures but keep enchantments if you have a battlefield with enchantments you want to keep.

Being able to choose any number of the modes of Farewell is incredible, especially since exiling gets around a lot of protection like hexproof and indestructible. Farewell is very strong and in Commander, fairly easy to cast due to how easier it generally is to cast big spells.
