Disney Lorcana, while similar toMagic: The Gatheringin its land mechanic, uses an ink system that can turn any card in your hand with a specific icon into ink, further adding resources for you to later use. Like most card games, the archetypes are separated into different colors with the usual colors representing familiar playstyles,if you have dabbled in any TCGs in the past years.

The First Chapter is the first booster expansion for Lorcana, and it cements what each color in the game will float around in terms of playstyle. Like in most games, the color red, or Ruby, as it is known by in Lorcana, tends to be a more aggressive archetype with focusing on ending games quick and hard removal that other decks don’t have.

10Donald Duck, Boisterous Fowl

Some of the most basic things that a card game can have are cards with good stat lines and no effects, or more commonly known in the space as “vanilla” cards. Donald Duck is one of the best vanilla cards in Ruby.

Donald Duck is a two-cost character with two Strength and three Willpower that can quest for one lore. While cards like these may seem underwhelming, Ruby has many cards that can give other charactersRushor even more lore.

9Dragon Fire

Like most tabletop card games, Disney Lorcana’s version of red, known as Ruby, is an aggressive pool of cards that focuses on rushing down by giving your characters extra lore and removing your opponent’s characters with powerful items, actions, and songs.

Dragon Fire will be one of the quintessential cards in Lorcana for a while. A card that reads “remove that target” will always be good in any card game’s infancy. Unlike other card games' removal options, likeDigimon Card Game’sGaia Force, Dragon Fire is quite cheap to play, making it an easy addition to your Ruby decks.

8Fan The Flames

Since Ruby tends to be the most aggressive out of all the colors in Lorcana, protecting your characters with big lore counts is essential. With Fan The Flames, you may ready any of your characters that have challenged another character or quested this turn.

Ruby has many cards that can give your characters even more lore so leaving them exerted for your opponent to throw everything at them might be a mistake, but with Fan The Flames, and its cheap one ink cost, your characters will be protected from those evil Stitch cards.

7Goofy, Daredevil

Evasiveis a great ability for a card to have. Cards with this keyword can only be challenged by other cards withEvasive, making Goofy a great attacker for your arsenal. Goofy, although expensive at five ink, can be a great chip damage attacker that will stick around until your opponent can draw an out to him.

Goofy’s stat line is also fantastic. Three Strength and four Willpower is not too shabby and there are fewEvasivecards that can compete with that.

6Maleficent, Monstrous Dragon

Maleficent will be Ruby decks' boss monster for a while. With an ability that is the same as the action card of the same name, this villain card will do some irreparable damage if left unchecked. Maleficent has a hefty nine ink cost to play, but removing a target with a seven/five stat line that can quest for two lore, can be quite worth it.

Although there are cards in Ruby that can give you more bang for your buck when it comes to questing, Maleficent’s two lore will add up since she is so hard to remove.

5Mickey Mouse, Brave Little Tailor

Another option for boss characters is Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor. This card does not have as great a stat line as Maleficent, but thisEvasivelittle guy can quest for four lore every turn. Mickey Mouse comes at a steep cost of eight ink, but a high lore amount withEvasiveis very hard to remove without an action or song card.

4Mulan, Imperial Soldier

On her own, Mulan doesn’t seem as good, but paired with cards that can exert other characters like Elsa, this character can help you clear a board quickly while letting your other characters quest even more, getting you closer to victory.

With a stat line of four/five, Mulan is not too shabby at challenging when she needs to proc her Lead By Example ability.

3Tigger, Wonderful Thing

Filling your deck with tons ofEvasivecards that your opponent is forced to answer is not a bad idea when it comes to an aggro-focused deck. Tigger, Wonderful Thing fills the same role as Goofy, Daredevil. Since you can’t have more than four copies of Goofy in your deck, Tigger can help you pad out the remaining places in your deck.

Luckily, due toLorcana’s ink mechanic, if you don’t need Tigger at that moment or in the foreseeable future, you’re able to simply drop it in your inkwell to play cards in the following turns.

2Aladdin, Heroic Outlaw

If you rather play a more midrange build of Ruby with more control elements, Aladdin will be your man. Thanks to theShift mechanicin the game, Aladdin’s high play cost of seven can be reduced by five by playing him on top of another Aladdin character already in play.

This Aladdin card lets you control the board by eliminating potential threats, all while lowering your opponent’s lore count by two, making Aladdin a huge target for any removal abilities in the game.

1Be Prepared

Just likeDark HoleinYu-Gi-Oh!, Be Prepared is Lorcana’s board wipe. A seven-cost card that can banish every character on the board, including your own. It may seem counterintuitive to banish your own characters in the process, but when you are behind, Be Prepared might be the thing you need to get you back in the game.

Adding Amethyst cards do your Ruby deck can give you great synergy since many cards in Amethyst get additional effects when they are banished, meaning Be Prepared can let you activate them whenever you like.
